Trader’s Tips: Wright, MVG and Price all set for Premier League wins?

The Premier League roared back into life with a pair of draws and wins for Michael van Gerwen, James Wade and Gerwyn Price in Newcastle last week. Now we’re off to Glasgow for week two.
Glen Durrant is this week’s contender. He faces Daryl Gurney. Elsewhere, Michael Smith faces Peter Wright, Van Gerwen takes on Mensur Suljovic and Rob Cross plays Wade in the pick of the action.
Our man on the trading floor Alan Vye has had his say on it all, and picked out three more best bets for us along the way.
Coral News: So then, Alan. Before we get stuck into week two, have there been any significant changes in the outright betting for the Premier League? Have you altered your opinion on any of the players?
Alan Vye: MVG has shortened a touch after defeating Smith last week but there haven’t been any significant changes. Wright and Cross both played extremely well, and either could now emerge as the biggest threat to Van Gerwen.
CN: It’s Michael Smith v Peter Wright up first. Both men played pretty well in Newcastle without getting it over the line. Who comes out on top here, and will Bully Boy’s two demolition jobs over the Scotsman last year have any effect?
AV: think the two wins Snakebite has over Smith in 2019 are far more significant. Wright seems to have settled on a set of darts and looks to be recovering from the dip in form he suffered in 2018.
Wright’s 6-5 win over Bully Boy in the Players Championship on Saturday was a brilliant match to watch, with both players averaging north of 110. I like Wright at the prices.
CN: James Wade got off to winning start against Raymond van Barneveld last week, as you predicted. Will the Machine find it harder going against Cross, who looks a tougher opponent?
AV: Much tougher! Cross looked in decent nick both in Newcastle last week and at the Players Championship events at the weekend.
However, Wade did play better than expected in beating Barney last week. This should be a tight affair. [Draw is 3/1, Cross 7-5 Wade is 15/2, Wade 7-5 Cross is 6/1]
CN: Match three sees Barney take on Gerwyn Price. The Welshman looked imperious in recording a 104.11 average last week. Could this get embarrassing for his opponent?
AV: I don’t think Price will play that well again but I do think he’ll have too much for Barney, who seems to be lacking a spark at the moment. Much will depend on how Price manages the crowd.
If he gets ahead early and silences them, then Barney’s head may drop and this could be over in a flash. [Price to Win is 11/10, Price to Win 7-3 is 13/2]
CN: Contender time! Glen Durrant reached the final of a Players Championship event at the weekend. He’ll give Daryl Gurney a serious run for his money here, won’t he?
AV: This should be a close affair. Durrant’s run to the final of Players Championship 2 will have furthered Duzza’s belief that he belongs in the PDC.
His averages weren’t anything to shout home about, though, and I think he may fall just short in Glasgow. [Gurney 7-5 Durrant is 8/1]
CN: Michael van Gerwen and Mensur Suljovic round things off. Is there any way the consistency of the Austrian can keep up with the explosiveness of MVG?
AV: MVG would need to have an off night for Mensur to win this. That said, the Austrian played really well in the latter stages against Chris Dobey last week and I’d expect him to play well again here.
I think he’ll stick with Van Gerwen in the early stages but ultimately will have not quite enough. [Suljovic is 10/11 to win Leg 1]
CN: You nailed a pair of 11/10 winners for us last week. What have you got for us in your three best bets this time around?
AV: Wright to beat Smith @ 13/8
Gurney to beat Durrant @ 7/5
Suljovic +2.5 Legs v Van Gerwen @ 11/10
