Odds and review of NBA action

We’re back with another week of talking points in the NBA. The trade deadline came to a close with some big names on the move but others controversially staying put.

On the court, the Boston Celtics have some explaining to do while Orlando Magic have pulled a rabbit out of the hat with three wins in their last three games.

Marc Gasol has a new team, but we begin with LeBron James and his intriguing All-Star picks…

King James looking for his prince?

Thursday’s All-Star draft was always going to draw attention from the fans – but James’ picks just add to the interest ahead of the game itself next week.

The Los Angeles Lakers lynchpin selected a clutch of free-agents including Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving.

It’s no big revelation that the Lakers may be looking for new blood – after they offered near enough their full roster in an attempt to lure Anthony Davis from New Orleans Pelicans in the last fortnight.

‘Bron dismissed that it’s all a ploy to recruit a new star for his side, but not many players will turn down linking up with the three-time NBA champion.

Celtics failing to Hoop

Back to the hardwood and Boston Celtics have had a miserable week after they let slip wins against Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Celtics own Marcus Morris has said the team are playing like a ‘bunch of individuals’ and that it ‘hasn’t been fun for a long time’.

Jayson Tatum and Irving have been starring but with athletes such as Gordon Hayward and Marcus Smart in their side, it’s worrying that they’ve succumbed to these last two losses.

There are many that feel Celtics are best placed to challenge Golden State Warriors and at 11/1 third favourites, our traders agree they are contenders.

But they must turn their A-game on come play-off time.

Marc providing the Gasol-ine to Raptors charge

One of the headline steals on trade deadline day was Toronto Raptors pick up of Marc Gasol.

Since joining the NBA in 2008 he has three All-Star slots to his name and Spain national team coach and Raptors assistant Sergio Scariolo believes he’s the perfect fit for his team.

“A type of player who was never in the team. Basically a great passer, someone who sees the next play a split-second before most of the opponents… teammates as well, most of the coaches.”

Gasol will now play alongside a roster including Leonard, Kyle Lowry and Patrick McCaw in a team that’s 9/1 second favourites to win the NBA Championship.
