Odds and preview of the NBA action

The regular season got back underway after the shenanigans of the All-Star Weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina last week.

We discover why the Milwaukee Bucks are so good and the reason LeBron James is questioning LA Lakers’ post-season potential.

Plus, the New York Knicks broke their 18-match home losing streak with a 130-118 win over San Antonio Spurs.

There’s this and a whole lot more as we look back on the week that was.

Winners

Paul George

Every player has their star man but not many are playing as well as Oklahoma’s Paul George at the moment.

The forward has worked his way to 15/2 third favourite for regular season MVP with Russell Westbrook also on his side.

Whilst all the talk has been around Giannis Antetokounmpo and the omnipotent James Harden – George has been quietly going about his business this term.

The 28-year-old put up scores including a 47 against Portland Trail Blazers and 45 in a win over Utah Jazz.

His clutch three-pointer over the Jazz just underlines his increased importance.

Milwaukee Bucks

Bucks had a very good week after welcoming back Antetekounmpo from All-star captain duties.

The side have won nine of its past ten games including a 98-97 win over Boston Celtics and 140-128 victory against Minnesota Timberwolves.

But its Giannis or the Greek Freak as he’s affectionately known that is dragging his side towards a possible 10/1 NBA Championship win.

In his last ten games the 24-year-old has an average of 29.8 points-per-game, 12.3 rebounds and 6.8 rebounds.

It’s looking like if anyone finishes above him in the MVP running, then they would win it.

Losers

Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers looked to be on the up at the back of 2018, but following the furore around the Anthony Davis trade – things have sunk.

It was a loss to a Davis-less New Orleans Pelicans that finally got under James’ skin.

The three-time NBA winner questioned his team-mates’ ‘sense of urgency’ after the game.

Lakers went down by as many as 20 points to a side that was resting their most influential player.

This had ‘Bron asking “how many know what’s at stake if you’ve never been there?”

New Orleans Pelicans and the Bucks are next – LeBron may have to turn beast mode on again.

Zion Williamson

It was hard to escape the images of Zion Williamson’s split Nike trainer last week.

The 18-year-old is widely-regarded as the next NBA great and a shoe-in – pardon the pun, to be the number one draft pick this year.

But just 33 seconds Duke University’s game against North Carolina he fell suffering a mild knee sprain.

His impact at college level means he could earn up to $1billion when he turns professional.

Does Zion try to get back as quick as possible or think of the bigger picture?
