Latest race preview and Formula E odds

Formula E’s global criss-crossing continues this week with round four of the 2018-19 season in Mexico.

We’ve already had a trio of excellent races in Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Chile, with three different men on pole position and three different race winners.

It’s proving to be a fantastically competitive season, and the series’ new iteration Gen2 continues to receive the thumbs-up.

The story so far

If the early rounds of the campaign are anything to go by, then we’re in for a fascinating season.

Antonio Felix da Costa dominated the opening round in Saudi Arabia, and was set to win again in Morocco before a race-ending smash with BMW Andretti team-mate Alexander Sims.

Da Costa’s title hopes took another hit last time out with his second successive DNF too.

It means he’s 15 points behind championship leader Sam Bird. The Englishman picked up his first points of the year with a third place finish in Marrakech, before a superb drive in Santiago to win his first race of the season.

He leads former Formula One driver Jerome d’Ambrosio by two points. The Belgian was third in the opening round, before coming through the BMW-engineered melee to win in Marrakech. A 10th-place finish in Chile kept his points-scoring run going.

But at this stage of the season, it’s still a wide-open championship. Our traders have reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne as 21/20 favourite to win the title.

There’s 9/4 about Bird becoming champion, with Da Costa next up at 9/2. The odds then slide out to d’Ambrosio at 9/1.

More on-track spice in Mexico

The series is off to Mexico this weekend, and to the legendary Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, in the heart of Mexico City.

This is the fourth ePrix at the venue, which also hosts Formula One Grand Prix (albeit on a different layout). The high altitude usually makes things difficult for the F1 guys, but that’s not a problem when you’re all electric.

It’s a tricky little circuit, looping around the former baseball venue within the track. At just over 1mile long, it’s one of the shortest tracks on the calendar.

Felix Rosenqvist took pole position last year with a time of 1:01, so we should see lap times under the minute mark this weekend.

Audi Sport drivers have won this race for the past two years, which bodes well for Daniel Abt (winner in 2018) and Lucas di Grassi.

But it’s Vergne and Bird who share favouritism in the betting at 7/2, ahead of Di Grassi at 13/2 and Abt at 15/2.
