Everything you need to know about the 2019 World Darts Championship
When does it start? What are the odds? Where can I watch it?
The 2019 PDC World Darts Championship is finally upon us, and we’re all set for three weeks of intense competition at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace.
Unsure of who the favourites are and what’s different about this year’s tournament? We’ve covered everything you need to know in our World Darts Championship guide.
When does the World Darts Championship start?
Not long now! The Ally Pally action gets underway at 6:30pm on Thursday 13th December 2018.
The opening night has some real humdingers in store, too. Jeffrey de Zwaan takes on Nitin Kumar, Martin Schindler faces Cody Harris and Jan Dekker plays Lisa Ashton in the first round.
Then reigning world champion Rob Cross makes his bow. Voltage will take on the winner of de Zwaan v Kumar in a second round clash in the final game of the night.
Where can I watch the World Darts Championship?
Every double, treble and bullseye is available to watch exclusively live on Sky Sports Darts through the duration of the tournament.
Dave Clark and co. will have wall-to-wall coverage of each afternoon and evening session right up until the final at 8pm on New Year’s Day 2019.
What’s different about the World Darts Championship this year?
The format has changed and so too has the number of competitors. A record-breaking total of 96 players will take to the Ally Pally stage across the next three weeks.
These are made up of the top 32 from the PDC Order of Merit, the 32 highest ranked players on the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit and 32 qualifiers from around the world.
The latter 64 are all unseeded and will enter at the first round stage. The PDC’s top 32 are all seeded and will enter the competition at the second round stage.
What are the odds for the World Darts Championship?
Michael van Gerwen is the 13/8 favourite to win the World Darts Championship for a third time.
Gary Anderson is his nearest challenger at 3/1, with fellow Scotsman Peter Wright slightly further back at 9/1. Michael Smith comes next at 14/1, followed by Mensur Suljovic and defending champion Rob Cross at 22/1 apiece.
Daryl Gurney and Gerwyn Price are both available at 33/1. James Wade is 40/1 and two-time champion Adrian Lewis is 66/1 for an unlikely third crown.

When is the World Darts Championship Final?
The first sporting world championship of the New Year is appropriately decided on New Year’s Day 2019. It gets under way from 8pm and will be a best of 13 sets match.
