Ian Poulter odds shorten for Ryder Cup team

Poulter primed for Ryder Cup spot?
The Ryder Cup is just a few weeks away and European captain Thomas Bjorn now has the key decisions of who will take his four wildcard spots.
Englishmen Matt Wallace and Belgian Thomas Pieters are tipped to be in the mix. But our traders make Ian Poulter 1/6 to be named in the team.
Coral’s John Hill: “The betting suggests Thomas Bjorn is going to opt for experience with his wild card picks with Henrik Stenson, Paul Casey and Sergio Garcia all odds-on to be included,”
“Matt Wallace’s odds have been slashed after success in Denmark, while Rafa Cabrera Bello would not be a huge surprise if he was given a spot in the team,” added Hill.
The US will be looking to defend their crown in France, in what would be the first time they’ve won in Europe since 1993.
However, we make USA the odds-on favourite sat 5/6 to win the tournament, Europe are 6/5 and the draw is 10/1.
“Although USA are the marginal favourites to defend their title, it is one of the most open Ryder Cups we can remember.
We expect the patriotic support to be behind Europe in the betting therefore it is likely to be an expensive result for the Coral traders if they do win back the trophy,” concluded Hill.
