Odds and previews for tonight’s action

We’re barely a fortnight into the new football season, but already it’s time for some cup fever.

It’s the EFL Cup first round this evening, and an early chance for an upset or two.

The Coral News Team have looked ahead to tonight’s action and called three bankers plus two surprises…

Nottingham Forest to beat Bury @ 1/2

If this was at Gigg Lane this could be a different story, but at the City Ground a Forest win looms.

The Reds have looked pretty good in the Championship under new boss Aitor Karanka, winning one and drawing two of their three games.

Even if Karanka rests some of his first team, Forest should have the strength in depth to see off League Two Bury.

Norwich City to beat Stevenage @ 4/9

Championship Norwich are yet to win this term, while League Two Stevenage are yet to lose.

But this is the perfect game for the Canaries to pick up some useful momentum. Much like Forest, City boss Daniel Farke should be able to rest players but still choose an XI with quality to win tonight. He may also pick a strong side in search of that first victory.

Leeds United to beat Bolton Wanderers @ 7/10

Is there a better side in the Football League right now than Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds? The Whites have been playing some sublime football under Argentine.

Granted, this is a cup game, and Bolton are going well under Phil Parkinson, but they could be the latest side to come unstuck against the rampant Yorkshiremen.

Mansfield to beat Accrington Stanley @ 13/10

There’s an upset on the cards when League Two Mansfield host League One Accrington.

The Stags have roared out of the blocks, collecting four points from their two games, scoring five times in the process.

Stanley face a long campaign in their inaugural League One season, and a cup run could be seen as a distraction.

Exeter to beat Ipswich @ 27/10

This could be the upset of the night. Ipswich have to make a long Tuesday night trek to an Exeter City side in blistering form.

The Grecians have won both of their matches so far this term, scoring five while conceding once.

Promotion is the aim, but a morale-boosting cup scalp would be welcome all the same. Ipswich are still finding their way under Paul Hurst and are yet to win this season.
