Four tips from Ireland

It’s a quiet night of football across the UK and Europe tonight but the Irish are here to save the Daily Acca Tips column.

The League of Ireland Premier Division has a host of intriguing fixtures to get stuck into. And the Coral News Team picks out four of the best bets.

Waterford to beat Derry City – 21/20

It’s 3rd v 4th tonight as Waterford United host Derry on the South Coast. Waterford have been a bit of a surprise package this season, and have lost just once at home all season.

Kenny Shiels’ Derry side are a decent outfit but the Candystripes are vulnerable away from the Brandywell.

The Ulster club have lost five of their nine games on the road. Waterford have lost just once on the Regional Sports Centre, and already beaten Dundalk and Cork City there. They should be too strong for Derry this evening.

Cork to beat St.Patrick’s Athletic – 6/5

Pats were on a lovely little run of four wins in a row until a humbling 3-0 away to Shamrock Rovers. And it could be about to get worse at champions Cork City rock up to Richmond Park.

John Caulfield’s side continue to slug it out at the top of the table with Dundalk. And the Leesiders will be looking at Pats as a decent opportunity to bag maximum points.

In Pats’ defence, they have only been beaten in Inchicore once all season. But that was to Cork at the very start of the campaign. The Rebel Army are arguably the most solid side in the league and should brush past Saints tonight.

Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers – Draw @ 2/1

The Dublin Derby is not for the faint-hearted football fan. There’s an intense rivalry going back over 100 years between Bohs and Rovers, and tends to get nasty, too.

Both clubs are traditional giants of the domestic game in Ireland but it’s been a lean few years for the pair. Despite plenty of backing, Stephen Bradley has struggled to get any consistency into Rovers. And their away record so far this term is dire.

The Hoops have lost six of their nine games on the road. But Bohs aren’t in much better form themselves,  just three points off second-bottom. This will be tight, tense and scrappy.

Dundalk to beat Bray Wanderers – 1/4

To wrap up the League of Ireland acca tips, this one should be as straightforward as it gets. Dundalk currently lead the table and are playing the best football in the country.

Bray are rooted to the foot of the table and look goners already at the mid-point of the season. Stephen Kenny’s Lilywhites are playing a breathless brand of attacking football at the minute, racking up 26 goals over 10 games at Oriel Park.

Harry Kenny (no relation) and his Wanderers side have lost nine of their 10 away games and could get a bit of a shellacking in the North-East.
