Daily Acca tips: Wins loom for France, Portugal and Austria
A £5 wager on tonight’s picks could return around £80
The international break gets into full flow tonight with all the top sides in friendly action.
England will take on the Netherlands, reigning world champions Germany play Spain, while Argentina meet Italy.
So there’s plenty to get stuck into this evening, and the Coral News crew have picked out five potential winners…
France – 1/2
There’s a real buzz around this French side, which boasts a scintillating array of attacking talent.
Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe and Anthony Martial offer blistering pace, while Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann provide guile and composure.
Boss Didier Deschamps is onto a good thing with this current generation, and they’ll be out to start 2018 on a high against Colombia.
Les Bleus have lost only one of their last 20 on home soil (to Spain), while their South American visitors have failed to win five of their last six.
Portugal – 4/7
European champions Portugal aren’t expected to do quite so well in Russia, but with Cristiano Ronaldo on-board, they can never be discounted.
The Real Madrid star is in the squad to take on Mohamed Salah and Egypt. Portugal have proven tough to beat in recent years, losing just two of their last 27 games.
Conversely, Egypt haven’t won any of their last six away games.
Poland – 17/20
Organised and tactically sound, Poland are always dark horses when it comes to major tournaments.
And in Robert Lewandowski, they have a striker of the quality few countries can match.
They take on Nigeria in preparation for an opening match in Russia versus Senegal.
Nigeria did beat Argentina 4-2 in November, but they’ve also failed to win away at Cameroon and Algeria in the last 12 months.
The Poles have been beaten in just one of their last 15 games when Lewandowski has featured.
Austria – 8/11
Austria disappointed in qualifying, and won’t be in Russia after finishing fourth in their group.
They go about their rebuilding process by hosting a Slovenia side who also failed to make the finals.
The Austrians are unbeaten in six at home, and that includes wins over Serbia and Uruguay.
Slovenia struggled to get past Lithuania and Malta in qualifying, and have failed to even score in their last four away games.
Scotland – 23/20
The Scots came up agonisingly short in qualification, but Gordon Strachan has moved on and Alex McLeish is now in the hot seat.
They start a new era at home to Costa Rica and the Tartan Army have been excellent of late at Hampden Park.
Of the last nine visitors, only the Netherlands have come away victorious. Costa Rica have travelled far and arrive in poor form, failing to win any of their last five games.
