Can Bundesliga winter champs Bayern Munich pull off a treble?

Der FCB fighting on all fronts

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes led the German giants to a treble of Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and Champions League in 2013.

The 72-year-old left in the wake of that achievement, but returned in October 2017, following a patchy start to the season which saw Carlo Ancelotti sacked.

Since Heynckes’ return, they’ve been in sensational form. They breezed to the title of ‘Winter Champions’ ahead of the Bundesliga’s break. And that inevitably re-ignites talk of another potential treble under the current boss.

The Coral News Team look at Der FCB’s chances in each of the three major competitions.

Bundesliga

Bayern have won the German top-flight five times in succession, ahead of this season. And the Bavarian outfit already have one hand on the trophy – with Coral making the holders 1/66 to lift the title again this year.

Those might seem skinny odds at this time of the season. But it’s hard to see anything but a procession to the league title.

Heynckes’ men are 11 points clear at the top of the table. With early-season challengers like Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig having more-or-less disintegrated, the title looks nigh-on-certain to stay at the Allianz Arena.

DFB Pokal

Bayern head into the Round of 16 on Wednesday night facing a tough game against Borussia Dortmund. The hosts are 2/5 to win in 90 minutes at the Allianz Arena, and if they pass this test – they must be firm favourites to lift the cup.

That’s because the Third Round still includes four clubs from the lower leagues, as well as four of the Bundesliga’s bottom five sides.

Der FCB have lifted this trophy in three of the past five seasons. In fact, Dortmund are the only side to defeat Bayern in this competition since way back in 2011.

BVB have the better Head-to-Head record in this competition in recent years. But the Munich outfit have triumphed in four of the last six league meetings. Can Heynckes and co. translate that dominance to the DFB Pokal this year.

Champions League

Club legend Heynckes was the last boss to deliver this trophy to Bayern, back in 2013. And the Coral News Team aren’t writing them off this year – especially with Robert Lewandowski looking dangerous in the UCL yet again.

As far as the Round of 16 goes, the Bavarians have been handed a generous-looking tie against Besiktas. The Turkish side won their group, but haven’t made it to the Quarter-Finals of this competition since 1987.

With back-to-back UCL winners Real Madrid yet to impress in Europe and sitting fourth in La Liga, a new winner looks highly likely.

Bayern boast a coach who’s won this trophy, as well as many of his loyal servants of 2013 – including Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller.

Add a backline who’ve managed eight clean sheets in 15 games in all competitions, and they look like genuine contenders.

Bayern Munich to Win the Treble this season can be backed at 10/1.
