Seven live races from Newbury and Newmarket

The Ayr Gold Cup was to be the feature race of a busy Saturday of racing. However, a washout in Scotland has seen the postponement of the meeting.

Newmarket steps in to save the day though with ITV showing seven races live from there, and Newbury.

There’s the Group 2 Reef Mill Stakes to look forward to, as well as two Group 3s in the Legacy Cup Stakes and the World Trophy Stakes.

As ever, the Coral News Team will try and point out some value tips along the way.

Let’s get cracking.

Bet of the Day

After backing David Griffiths’ Take Cover to win the Beverley Bullet last month, this 10-year-old flyer duly obliged.

Coral’s current price on him to win the World Trophy Stakes renewal is simply to hard to ignore.

It must be noted this is a move up in class from a Listed race to Group 2 category here. But he’s an old reliable and in good form all season.

He was fourth in his last Group 2 race, but that was to the much-heralded Battaash. His competitors in this renewal are not of that quality.

Muthmir and Cotai Glory will absolutely pose a threat but Take Cover is Coral’s Bet of the Day.

Exciting Mill Reef Stakes in store

The Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury looks a particularly interesting renewal with a number of entries in with a chance.

James Tate’s Invincible Army is the current favourite. James Garfield, Enjazaat, Lansky and Nebo all head up the chasing pack.

Of that five, Nebo is most intriguing. After a couple of second place finishes at Newmarket and Goodwood in July and August, he ran poorly last time out in the Gimcrack at York.

However, connections discovered the two-year-old was suffering from a throat infection after scoping.

Charles Hills has stated he’s back in fine fettle now. Ryan Moore rides on him. He’s definitely worth a punt at the current price.

Solid as a rock Desert Encounter

Formerly known as the Arc Trial, the Legacy Stakes at Newbury looks another interesting renewal.

However, Desert Encounter looks a solid bet. David Simcock’s five-year-old has been in solid form all season.

A third place in the Coral Eclipse, and a sixth in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes paves the way for another impressive showing here.

The field will be nowhere near as strong in this one. And that will mean he’ll be doing the leading, not the chasing.

If Sean Levey can keep him focused, he is value all the way.
