Big Match Breakdown: Manchester United v Everton

| 16.09.2017

Everton’s poor form could continue

Manchester United welcome a struggling Everton to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils are in rampant form at home but will be looking to return to winning ways after their 2-2 draw away at Stoke City last weekend.

Everton are winless in the league since their opening day victory against the Potters.

Ahead of the game, the Coral News Team will attempt to break the big game down..

Head to Head

The Toffees, and Ronald Koeman, in particular, have a good recent record against United. The former Southampton manager is unbeaten in three matches against the Manchester club.

The Dutchman is also yet to lose against a Jose Mourinho side after five matches – four have ended level.

The last two games between this pair at Old Trafford have finished in draws. However, historically, the Blues have only won twice in the Premier League at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.

Likely XIs

Both sides made changes for their respective midweek European ties and will likely revert to type here.

Manchester United will recall Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, and Eric Bailly. Paul Pogba is out injured for six weeks so Ander Herrera should start.

Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Pickford, Ashley Williams and Sandro Ramirez should all come back into the starting XI after being missing the 3-0 defeat to Atalanta.

United will likely start in a 4-3-3 formation while Everton will line-up in a 3-4-2-1.

Both Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson will have to be prepared to track the forward runs of Herrera and Marouane Fellaini.

Key Battles

Everton tend to attack well down their right flank so their trio of Martinez, Gueye and Rooney will look to isolate a slightly stodgy Daley Blind at left back.

The Blues will have to be on top of their game all over the pitch to stay in this one. United are very strong going forward.

They love to slide balls in behind for Romelu Lukaku and attack set-pieces well.

Everton are poor at defending both of these. Lukaku against Ashley Williams will be a pivotal battle.

Ronald Koeman will look to advance his wingbacks with Martinez and Leighton Baines going around the central trio of Nemanja Matic, Fellaini and Herrera.

This match could be won and lost in the wide areas.

Match Odds

Manchester United are unbeaten in four matches in the Premier League this season.

The Toffees have lost three consecutive games for the first time under Koeman.

With Jose Mourinho’s side rampant at Old Trafford, odds of 1/3 on them look correct.

Everton are a huge 9/1 at Coral, while the draw is 4/1.

United have scored nine times in the league at home without conceding. Everton have scored just once, through Wayne Rooney against Stoke.

A Manchester United win looks nailed-on but backing it to nil is 21/20 and that looks value.

Lukaku and Rooney will face their old clubs for the first time. The Belgian is 12/5 to be First Goal Scorer.

The former England captain is 10/3 to score anytime.
