3 reasons Swansea will finish in the top half

Swans have done good business on Deadline Day

It’s fair to say Swansea City enjoyed a good Deadline Day. Aside from the loss of Fernando Llorente to Tottenham they retained their key players. They also added strength in key areas.

As a result the Coral News Team believes that the Swans stand a good chance of breaking into the top half of the Premier League.

They only finished four points adrift last season. And that was following a season of tumult and uncertainty.

However, this year things appear in Swansea’s favour:

The Manager

Paul Clement should not be underrated as a manager. He’s a coach that players want to work for and that goes a long way in football at the moment.

He also has the ability to improve players. And that could be crucial in a league where coaches often lack the skills to make players better. Of the teams outside the top seven or eight not many can boast a better tactician or man manager.

Plus, Clement has already been employed – albeit as a number two – at some of the finest clubs in the world. His players will value that experience and grow as a result.

The Transfer Window

It’s hard to ignore the progress of any club without looking at their business in the transfer window. And Swansea have done well. Fernando Llorente may have left for Spurs but in his place returns Wilfried Bony.

Bony was a hit in his previous stint at the Liberty Stadium. The Ivory Coast international scored 26 goals in 54 games for the Swans from 2013-2015. After a disastrous spell with Manchester City the 28-year-old should flourish back in familiar surroundings.

And don’t forget about Renato Sanches. The Euro 2016 winner joins on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich thanks to Clement’s German connections. It provided the coup of Deadline Day.

A move to Bayern perhaps came at the wrong time for the 20-year-old. Switching to the Jacks comes at the right time, though. Clement has a great record of working with young players and his style will suit the league down to a tee.

The only downside is the loss of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton. They’ll be hoping the additions of Sanches and Bony make up for the Icelander’s departure.

Youth and Experience

Swansea have got a good mix of youth and experience running through the squad. Established names like Angel Rangel, Wayne Routledge and Leon Britton know what it takes to play for the South Wales club.

They’re complimented by a group of tremendously talented young players. Renato Sanches (20), Alfie Mawson (23) and Tammy Abraham (19) are all integral parts of the first team squad. Supplement that with further experience in Leroy Fer and Martin Olsson, two consistent Premier League performers, and you have the makings of a top-half team.

Results so far have seen four points picked up from nine. But that’s including a defeat to a rampant Manchester United. Against similar teams to themselves the Swans have what it takes to have a solid campaign.

Coral go 5/1 that Swansea City break into the top-10 this season.
