Five picks from the second round action

The Carabao Cup action returns this week as 13 clubs from the Premier League join remaining participants from the Championship, League One and League Two.

Today’s picks for your midweek acca come from Elland Road, St. Andrew’s and the Madejski Stadium, amongst others.

Follow Coral with a £5 stake and you could net handsome total of £136.65. Prices and returns mentioned are correct at the time of writing.

Let’s take a look at today’s five-fold…

Bournemouth to beat Birmingham

The Cherries have started the season with two defeats from two but should get back on track in this one.

Eddie Howe’s side have won their last four games against Birmingham in league and cup, while memories still linger of their 8-0 success at St. Andrew’s in 2014.

Blues manager Harry Redknapp doesn’t have a great recent record in the Carabao Cup and that should continue here. The away win is 21/20.

Leeds to beat Newport

Up in Yorkshire, Leeds have started the season like a train. The Whites are unbeaten so far and in Samuel Saiz appear to have a goalscorer capable of filling the void up front.

Thomas Christiansen’s side disposed of Port Vale in the last round, and against League Two opposition this time, they’ll have enough to take the win in 90 minutes. United are 1/3 for victory.

Hull to beat Doncaster

Across the Pennines and last season’s Carabao Cup quarter-finalists Hull take on League One Doncaster.

The Tigers like this competition, having gone past round two in each of the past three seasons, and they’re expected to do the same again this year.

By contrast, Rovers have only made round three on five occasions since 2002 and have failed to win in seven of their last 10 on home soil in the competition.

An away win makes sense here at 21/10.

West Brom to beat Accrington

There should only be one result in this one. The Baggies have started the season with two wins from two and have advanced past this stage of the competition in 10 of the past 12 seasons.

Accrington won’t make it easy for their Premier League visitors, but Tony Pulis’ side have the depth and quality available to see off a home shock. They’re 1/2 for an away victory.

Reading to beat Millwall

Two Championship sides face off at the Madejski Stadium, but it’s the hosts who are favourites to prevail at 23/20.

It’s the head-to-head record that gives a hint as to which way this one will go. Reading have won 11 of their last 16 against the Lions and are unbeaten against tonight’s visitors since 2004.

Millwall are also yet to win against fellow league opposition this season and will find this one just as difficult.
