Impressive Celtic to win big

Bhoys have scored nine goals in two games

The Glasgow derby makes up one half of a fascinating Friday of top-flight British football. Arsenal – Leicester brings in a new English Premier League season, but Celtic’s trip across the city to Partick Thistle serves as a tasty side dish.

The Bhoys started this season as they finished last, in complete control of Scottish football, sitting top with one game in the book. They can strengthen their lead over the chasing pack with a convincing Friday night win at Firhill.

Another clean sweep looking likely

Celtic impressed last week, unfurling the league title flag before settling down to business, spanking Hearts 4-1 in front of an appreciative sell-out crowd. Striker problems? Don’t even think it, as the champions swaggered to a maximum, thanks to goals from Griffiths x2, Sinclair and McGregor. By the time Goncalves hit back for the managerless Jambos on 84 minutes, the game was long since over as a contest.

Impressive stuff, but not half as eye-catching as what they did next, running down Kilmarnock in the League Cup at Parkhead. Billed as a competitive meeting between two Premiership sides, the hosts made a mockery of the pre-match hype, winning 5-0, and without breaking sweat. Brendan Rogers’ team is dangerous, and if the early signs are to be trusted, it’ll be another domestic clean sweep, with progress guaranteed in the Champions League.

It’s difficult to fancy Thistle

So, two games in, nine goals scored and only one conceded. Who’s for a bet on Partick Thistle at 12/1? A big price, but so it should be, and our traders could probably push The Jags out a big further and they’d still struggle to get any attention. Partick lost in week one, sunk by recently promoted Hibs, just to make a bet on the bigger price even less appealing.

Celtic will win, so what punters must ask themselves is how will they achieve it and where is the value? Taking the favourites in the match betting won’t do a lot of good at 1/4, unless thrown in with a few more for a weekend accumulator, but they won 4-1 and 5-0 here last season, making -1 on the handicap an option at 3/4.
