We’re after one at a price

We focus on the Merseyside schedule for our NAP of the day. The action gets underway at 1.55pm with an intriguing handicap, and we’re pinning our hopes on Intense Tango to get the afternoon off to a winning start, but waste little time going in with our best bet, which lines up in the second.

Due to post at 2.30pm, this year’s Rose of Lancaster Stakes has attracted a 13-runner field, and our traders have had their say, pricing Laraaib as the most likely winner, opening as a 10/3 favourite. There’s no doubt Jim Crowley deserves his place at the head of the betting, boasting a 100 per cent win record from three career starts.

NAP loves it around here

His lack of experience is a slight concern however, and for that reason we’re happy to look further down the list in the hope of landing one at a bigger price. The runner to carry our stake in the main event will be Frankuus. Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning join forces, and we expect the selection to outrun his odds.

The three-year-old colt is due to attract a fair share of interest on the day from casual punters, as he’s a product of the great Frankel, and connections will be eager to see him live up to his name on Saturday. He seems to enjoy it around here too, making a winning debut at Haydock in a novice stakes last summer, and his only other win since also came at the course.

Mark Johnston

Frankuus worth a play at 9/1

Frankuus arrives in good shape, finishing runner-up in a listed race at Hamilton last month behind short price favourite Defoe. He took a keen hold that day, leading early in the contest and pulling clear, but was pegged back at the business end of the race, and showed no change of pace when push came to shove.

Despite ending as runner-up, he wasn’t beaten by much in solid company, and had a few talented runners behind, including Call To Mind. Has been kept active, but looked to be at his best that day and we’re hoping he’s in the mood again here. The NAP will love the softer ground that’s expected, and that, paired with his experience, should give him the edge over a few more fancied in the betting. Well worth an interest at Coral’s 9/1.
