Morata to replace Costa at the bridge

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been given an extended summer holiday by the London club, proving beyond doubt that there has been irreparable damage done, and The Blues are sticking to their word and don’t want him back.

Fans who were holding out for owner Roman Abramovich to patch things up have now had to accept the player is off. We’re nearing the start of the new season, and it’s still no clearer where Costa will end up. Let’s catch up on that, as well as the other leading transfer news stories below.

Blues back in for Morata

So, who is going to replace Diego Costa and fire Chelsea to two-in-a-row? It’s obvious the Premier League champions are in need of some serious fire power if they are to successfully defend their title, as well as hold their own in the Champions League, and a deal for Alvaro Morata looks likely. The Real Madrid striker had been linked to Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd for most of June, but The Red Devils chose to go with Romelu Lukaku instead. The Spaniard is keen on a move to English football, and Chelsea are ready to make a £70m offer to tempt Blancos. Conte is rumoured to be furious at missing out on Lukaku, and it’ll take a big money swoop for Morata and Andre Belotti to help him get over it. The latter may just find himself priced out of a move however, with current employers Torino wanting £100m.

United want Inter midfielder

Manchester United have finally hit their stride this summer and are about to add another new face in Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, according to the tabloids. The 28-year-old is pushing for a move to Mourinho’s stable and expects to be at Old Trafford in good time for the big kick off on 12th August. Not if Milan have their way, as they look determined to hold on to their prize, or at least make United pay through the nose to get him. The Croatian cap is valued at £48m by the Serie A club, but that’s at least eight million more than the English side are willing to pay. Someone has to budge, but who? It’s a standoff at present – our rumour reel will let you know who blinks first.

What Koeman wants, Koeman gets

No Coral rumour reel is complete without a mention for Everton, and rightly so, they have been, by far, the busiest and most ambitious club in the transfer market. The names being linked to Goodison Park have been impressive, and what’s more, bosses have backed manager Ronald Koeman to the end, meaning he has bagged each of his targets so far, including Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney. They are now in for midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson of Swansea fame, but the Welsh side recently rejected a bid from Leicester and have marked up a £50m price tag. That does seem a tad extreme, and may be a way of scaring off any further interest, but splashing the cash has not been a problem for Everton, and they have the £75m in their bank from the transfer of Lukaku. The way things are going at the minute, if Koeman wants him, he’ll get him.
