Ajax ace in demand this summer

There’s little chance of Lionel Messi following Cristiano Ronaldo out of the La Liga door this summer, not after the 30-year-old extended his contract at Barcelona. The magician put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him tied to the Camp Nou until 2021.

Club bosses told members of the press they were delighted by Messi’s commitment, as they settle the future of a fans favourite who joined aged just 13, and a man they now consider to be the best player in history. That aside, we flick through the latest football transfer stories making headlines.

Ajax will resist all offers for Dolberg

Ajax forward Kasper Dolberg is not without his admirers this summer, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Roma believed to be showing an interest in signing the 19-year-old goal scorer. The Danish star doesn’t appear to be in any rush to leave his current employers however, and Ajax are happy with that. Roma were first to blink, offering £15m to bring Dolberg to Serie A, but that offer was quickly rebuffed. Jose Mourinho got a good look at just what the teenager is capable of during last season’s Europa League, but sporting director Marc Overmars says his club are ready to resist all offers. Is that a challenge to the highest bidder?

Troy Deeney

Foxes bid for Troy Deeney

Leicester City have submitted a bid for Watford striker Troy Deeney, believed to be in the region of £20m. Big bucks, but not big enough. Boss Craig Shakespeare sees the gifted 29-year-old as a perfect addition to his side as he aims to build on last season’s disappointment. The Hornets aren’t about to stand in the way, but are holding out for an extra £5m to meet their valuation. With Deeney scoring 106 goals for the Vicarage Road club since a move from lowly Walsall in 2010, The Foxes may just see it as a price worth paying. Moving in the other direction, Leicester have accepted the fact they will be losing Riyad Mahrez and, like Watford, are waiting for the right offer to come in.

Forest raid Rangers for McKay

Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has spent £500,000 to bring Barrie McKay to the City Ground from Rangers. Former Gers manager Warburton was a real fan of McKay’s during his time in Glasgow, and believes he can help him progress and live up to the challenges of playing football south of the border. The 22-year-old Scotland cap was one of the better players in a horrible season for Rangers last term, but new manager Pedro Caixinha never seemed to fancy him, much to the surprise of fans. Rangers’ loss is Forest’s gain, and he’s expected to do well in the second-flight of English football. Barrie leaves behind a club in turmoil.
