£5 Wednesday acca pays £245

Five of the best from across Europe

Premier League football dominates the minds of punters this midweek, with some interesting matches taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The best of those is, without doubt, the Manchester Derby later in the week, but there’s also Arsenal – Leicester and Palace – Tottenham to solve.

We are focussing on Wednesday’s round of matches here, as we put forward our five-fold, which pays £245 for every £5 bet. As usual, the prices and returns mentioned below are correct at the time of publishing. Let’s pick through the contenders.

Sunderland beat Middlesbrough

We start with a bold call, but I think The Black Cats have been overpriced at 23/10 to win the match. Boro are three points better off in the pecking order at present, with both sides already relegated, bar the shouting. There is very little to like about either side here, but Sunderland do go in on the back of a battling draw with West Ham. They don’t have an awful lot to aim for, but will want to get off the bottom and I believe Moyes’ big game experience will make the difference, if his players listen.

Leicester beat Arsenal

Another bit of a long-shot, of course, but what’s not to like about The Foxes at 17/4 against a battered and bruised Arsenal. The home side were put through the emotional rollercoaster of knocking Man City out of the FA Cup in extra-time at Wembley on Sunday, and there will be a few tired legs in the team as a result. Out again so quickly, against a side who have enjoyed a bit of a break, that’s far from ideal. Leicester have had no problems scoring goals of late, and will get plenty of chances on the counter-attack.

Hibs beat Raith

In the Scottish Championship, we take league winners Hibs to open-up now they are free from worry. The Edinburgh club, bossed by Neil Lennon, have been unconvincing this season, stuttering towards the flag, but now over the line I expect the enjoyment to return to their game. They are easy to trust against relegation-threatened Raith, who are just three points better than bottom. 2/7 does a job.

Bayern Munich beat Dortmund

Munich face Dortmund in the DFB Pokal, and are deserved favourites. They have drawn each of their last two Bundesliga starts, but are runaway leaders of the German top-flight and on-course for yet another impressive title. They hammered Borussia 4-1 earlier this month and should be good enough to go and do the same again here. 4/7 is just about right.

Real Madrid beat Deportivo

Real Madrid suffered an agonising 3-2 loss to Barcelona at the weekend, Messi scoring a stunning stoppage time winner to deliver a body blow to Los Blancos, who played the last 15-minutes with 10-men. Deportivo have been whipping boys for Real in recent years, losing 8-2 and 5-0 over the last few seasons. I expect Zidane and co to bounce back in ruthless fashion, at 2/5.
