Favourites expected to deliver

Hull beat Middlesbrough
A fascinating relegation battle as 18th host 19th. Victory for the locals could see them break free of the relegation zone, and their home form certainly suggests they are capable of getting the points. The Tigers beat West Ham at the KCOM on Saturday, and they also bettered Swansea the start before. Unbeaten on their own patch in all competitions this year, Hull win at evens looks a safe pick.
Arsenal beat West Ham
A chance to get three points on the board and steady the ship for Wenger’s battle-weary troops. And don’t they just need it? You can never back The Gunners with complete confidence, but they did smash their London rivals 5-1 in Stratford back in December. West Ham are winless in six, and have lost each of their last four. 4/9 Arsenal does a job.
Tottenham beat Swansea
We’d fancy Spurs over lowly Swansea at the best of times, but with the visitors having a chance to pile the pressure on leaders Chelsea, this is a must win, and they are a must have. Tottenham have battled their way into a great position, hoping The Blues tripped down the home straight. They can’t mess up with the door slightly ajar, can they? We’re happy with the away day at 7/10.
Liverpool beat Bournemouth
The Reds delivered against Everton at the weekend, taking a 3-1 Merseyside Derby win with minimal fuss. Once again The Toffees failed to turn up at Anfield, so we won’t heap too much praise on Liverpool, but they go into this unbeaten in four, a run including wins over Arsenal and Burnley. They must start beating the lower sides in the rankings more often, but confidence is back in the team, and they’re picked at 4/11.
Newcastle beat Burton
Dropping into the Championship and Newcastle are no closer to taking the title that was promised to them in pre-season. A lack of consistency has cost Rafa’s boys dear this season, but The Magpies have lost just one of their last 10, while Burton have managed just two wins in their last seven. These sides have played only once previous, which Newcastle won. 2/5 is fair.
Sheffield United beat Coventry
The Blades are one of few English sides who probably don’t have to win. They are clear at the top of League One, and can start to plan for an assault on the Championship next season. What does give punters hope though is that opponents Coventry are rock bottom of the division, and have lost five of their last eight. Sheff Utd to put on a show at 2/7.
Celtic beat Partick
The Bhoys won the league on Sunday, and although there may be one or two sore heads in the team, they can afford to freshen things up and give a couple of the fringe players a chance. There’s a big match with Rangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup coming up, so everyone is fighting for their place. The Hoops are also aiming to go through the season unbeaten. 2/11 is better than I expected in this Glasgow derby.
Rangers beat Kilmarnock
Both sides are ravaged by injury, so we will see who has the better squad, and I think it’s Rangers. New boss Pedro Caixinha has named his team already for the match, giving youth a chance, especially in defence. That’s a gamble, but the young-guns will be eager to impress. The Bears round us off at 8/13.
