MVG taken for a double in Manchester

Week eight of the Premier League darts kicks-off an impressive weekend of sport hosted at the Manchester Arena. Pre-tournament favourite Michael van Gerwen catches up on matches as he plays twice on Thursday, opening against James Wade and closing vs Raymond van Barneveld.

You can follow all the action live from the oche on Sky Sports, and we have put together a punchy accumulator to help make your viewing pay. Every £10 invested pays £66, if we are onto a winner, with prices and returns correct at the time of writing…..

van Gerwen beat Wade

He may have a tough night ahead, but MVG is picked to get off to a flyer against the inconsistent James Wade. The underdog brings a record of three wins, two draws and a pair of defeats, but chinned Klaasen in Rotterdam last week. He is in a great position in the table, but MVG’s win in front of a Dutch crowd over Phil Taylor would’ve done nothing but encourage him. There’s an obvious gulf in class between these two, and Mighty starts us off on a safe footing at 2/9.

Anderson beat Huybrechts

Another easy decision to make is adding in Scottish star Gary Anderson. He was spanked by Barneveld 7-2 last time in a bit of an upset, but I think the match meant more to Barney in front of a passionate support, and he raised his game accordingly. Kim Huybrechts was beaten by Adrian Lewis, and after seven attempts, he remains the only player in the Premier League without a win. Three draws is something to keep an eye on, but we support Anderson to do a job at 2/5.

Wright beat Taylor

Game of the night. New kid on the block, and the form player of the competition so far, Peter Wright takes on old master Phil Taylor. The Power isn’t quite going out in the blaze of glory we expected and he looks a soft touch at the minute – Wright will think he’s there for the beating. Taylor is on the slide, it has never been more obvious than in the last couple of weeks, and Snakebite looks value at 10/11.

Adrian Lewis could have his hands full with Joe Cullen.

Lewis beat Klaasen

Whisper it, but Adrian Lewis may just be finding his feet in this year’s competition. He travels to Manchester in fifth, well within touching distance of the major places. Klaasen is rock-bottom of the pile and rightly so. He is worth opposing at every opportunity, until we see real improvement. I don’t think he’s got it in him to beat Jackpot here, and we fill up on 4/7. That’s a fair price about what should be an easy win.

van Gerwen beat Barneveld

By the time this match goes to the oche we’ll be hoping MVG is flying after a convincing win over Wade. The underdog hasn’t got the rub of the green against Mighty in recent meetings, and I fancy MVG, already in his stride, to start fast and put this one to bed early. It’ll be an emotional night for van Gerwen but we’ll see what he’s made of. A double would certainly be a bold statement.
