Farmers Insurance Open: Tiger back on the prowl
With value in mind, we pick out the best each-way plays
California provides the backdrop for the focus of this week’s golfing action as we see the renewal of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. There’s no doubt about which player of a talented field will make most headlines, as punters see the return of Tiger Woods to competitive action.
The 41-year-old local lad makes only his second appearance in almost two-years, and offered little to get excited about when last seen swinging. He last won this back in 2013 however, with a score of 14 under-par, which would have been more than enough to take any of the three outings since.

Take a chance on Tiger being ready to pounce
Coral traders don’t believe Tiger’s comeback will amount to anything, and offer punters a tempting 33/1 if they disagree and want to back the former king of the sport with their hard-earned cash. It remains to be seen what kind of shape the man is in these days, and how much love he has left for golf, but if we can get at least a percentage of his true ability, that 33/1 will look massive come the conclusion on Sunday.
Each-way players who would like to give Tiger Woods the benefit of the doubt and back him at 33/1 will get place terms of 1/5 the odds 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, and that looks too good to ignore. I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off having Woods to finish in the top-seven. The same man is 11/4 to settle-up in the top-10 and 11/8 to post a top-20 effort.
Jason Day fancied by our traders
It’s as clear as day
Dustin Johnson starts the week at the head of the market, and Coral’s sports traders make him the most-likely to come out on top, offering 9/1, beaten only marginally by Jason Day who rolls into town at 10/1. The latter did, of course, win this title two years ago via a play-off, handing in a score of -9, but missed the cut last year as he continues to blow hot-and-cold in this competition.
When hot, he is truly on fire and was runner-up in 2014 and, although he goes as a bit of a risk, he merits an interest in my book. At 10/1 I’d be happy enough to have the 29-year-old Australian in my pack. If in the mood, he will meet this challenge head on.
Snedeker to keep it simple
Another former winner worth looking at is defending champion Brandt Snedeker who came home in front 12-months ago. Far from the most-impressive victor of this tournament that you will ever see, he is accurate in his approach, and that seems to fit the challenges of this course perfectly.
If Snedeker can make a solid, in unspectacular, start and keep pace with the early leaders, I’d make him worth an each-way play too. 25/1 goes on that one.
