Chisnall, Huybrechts and Klaasen all in action
After seven days of thrilling tungsten tension, the 2017 PDC World Championship first round comes to a close on Thursday evening, but darts fans are treated to what has the potential to be the best night of them all so far.
Top seeded stars such as Dave Chisnall, Kim Huybrechts, Vincent van der Voort and former BDO world champion Jelle Klaasen are all in action, with the former trio taking on tough opposition, so expect a shock or two.
Read on to check out our 2017 PDC Worlds day 8 preview…
Jelle Klaasen v Jeffrey de Graaf
In the only all-Dutch duel in the first round this year, 10th seed Klaasen (2/9 match favourite) takes on young-gun De Graaf (10/3), who only just switched over to the PDC earlier in the year.
The Cobra will be desperate to finally get picked for the Premier League (in 2017), and another good run at Ally Pally – similar to his semis achievement in 2016 – might just be enough.
Klaasen, BDO Worlds winner in 2006, is understandable heavy favourite to reach the second round, and a more enticing 21/10 to triumph 3-1 over highly-rated De Graaf, who is a pipefitter in his day job.
Vincent van der Voort v Max Hopp
There is more Dutch delight for darting fans next onto the oche too, as rapid thrower Van der Voort (4/7) will aim to overcome German prospect Hopp (11/8).
Despite Maximiser being touted as a potential star in the sport, The Dutch Destroyer has aptly beaten him with relative ease in both previous meetings.
The first came in the last 32 at this competition in 2014 by a 4-0 scoreline. It is likely to be a lot closer this time, though, so why not take odds of 6/4 for there to be over 4.5 sets?
Dave Chisnall v Rowby-John Rodriguez
In another battle between established star and up-and-coming wonderkid, four-time major tournament runner-up Chizzy takes on 22-year-old Austrian Rodriguez, who is aiming to make it third time lucky in the first round here.
Chisnall (1/6) is 2-1 up against Little John (4/1) in head-to-heads, but lost most recently to him earlier this year at a UK Open qualifier.
The Englishman is expected to see off Rodriguez’s challenge this time out, and so is 11/5 to win 3-1.
Kim Huybrechts v James Wilson
Finally, there is another intriguing affair to cap off the evening and round, as Belgium’s finest arrowsmith Huybrechts (1/2) takes on two-time BDO major champion Wilson (13/8).
The pair have met three times since Jammie Dodger’s switch to the PDC in 2015, with The Hurricane winning two out of three, but again he lost the most recent tussle at the European Championship.
A slight upset could well be on the cards here, but if you’re unsure who’ll come out on top then again you can take odds of 13/8 for it to go the distance in five sets.
