Wimbledon best bets

Coral’s experts provide their best bets for a nine-race card at Wimbledon screened live on Racing Post Greyhound TV.

Crossfield James cracking value to collect for in-form Cahill

T6 Crossfield James looks terrific value to exploit what looks a dream draw and land the Invitation Open at 21:48 on tonight’s card at Wimbledon screened live on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky 468, Freesat 250).

Seamus Cahill’s charge has won two of his four starts at the venue and those successes have both come when sporting the stripes.

The son of Droopys Scolari is blessed with stacks of early pace and comes into the contest on the back of an impressive victory seven days ago when making all to beat Bockos Bolasie by 2 3/4 lengths in a time of 28.47.

That sets the standard in this line-up and, as the sole wide seed, Crossfield James looks ideally housed to capitalise on any jostling on the inside as T4 Holdem Rio is sure to be cutting in at the first bend and T5 Droppys Two is a slow starter.

Another plus is that the selection hails from a kennel which has a strike rate of 46 per cent in Opens in the last week (seven wins from 15 races).

Badmoonrising set to shine

T4 Badmoonrising is performing at the top of his game at present and rates a solid bet in the Invitation Open that gets proceedings underway (19:39).

June Harvey’s dog has a terrific strike rate of 30 per cent at the Plough Lane venue and has won four of his last six starts in A1 company.

On each occasion he has shown terrific early pace to make all and, although this demands more, it does not look a strong race for an Open.

Badmoonrising would ideally prefer to be drawn nearer the fence but with T3 Salthill Monarch a bang railer and likely to move in, he should get a lovely clear run to the bend.

If turning in front, the son of Ace Hi Rumble is a tenacious sort and hard to pass once on the bunny.

King Eden can win battle with Dresden

In the second semi-final of the Puppy Derby (20:42), T6 King Eden looks worth siding with to turn over the red-hot jolly Droopys Dresden.

Liz McNair’s charge went down by 1 1/2 lengths when they last clashed, but ran on strongly after running very wide early doors.

He is a different dog when turning in front and, with T4 Droopys Dresden drawn on the outside, is a speedy type in the shape of T3 Gable Tango with a possibility of that pair coming together at the first bend.

If that proves to be the case, King Eden could be away and gone granted a slick exit.

Mustang Golden makes plenty of appeal

T5 Diego flight is odds-on for the six bend Invitation Open (21:32) but was a bitter disappointment when last seen in action and looks worth taking on with T2 Mustang Golden.

Mustang Golden looks likely to challenge for top spot.

Paul Young’s son of David Bale has some useful form to his name and was last successful over course and distance back in September when running on strongly to beat Digby Mia by a head in a time of 41.89.

That is very respectable, and a reproduction of his 16.43 split that day should be good enough to see him hold his pitch on the run to the first bend.

If doing so Mustang Golden is likely to prove hard to contain in the latter stages of the contest given his strong finish.

Wimbldeon best bets:

19:39 T4 Badmoonrising (NB)
20:42 T6 King Eden
21:32 T2 Mustang Golden
21:48 T6 Crossfield James (NAP)
