If there was ever a time to be snowed in and glued to the TV screen – it’s this weekend, as the Grand Slam of Darts returns to give audiences the best of both the BDO and PDC.
This hotly anticipated crossover event between darts’ two biggest organisations has thrown up thrilling duels already, with the group stage running from Saturday, November 12th until Tuesday, November 15th. Only two from each pool of four players will go through to the second phase, meaning it is high stakes from the start!
So, to guide punters through some OF the first fixtures, Coral darts writers present our tastiest tips for pool stage tussles including Michael van Gerwen v Martin Adams odds.

Michael van Gerwen v Martin Adams – MvG in handicap betting
This one is a real treat for tungsten fans, as crowd pleaser and cult hero Wolfie takes on PDC juggernaut and reigning Grand Slam winner Van Gerwen.
Three-time BDO world champ Adams has a decent darting history against Mighty Mike, winning two of four previous frays in 2006. But, MvG (odds-on 1/8 match favourite) has become a green winning machine since then, and punters can find a great value punt in handicap betting for Van Gerwen to beat Wolfie by over 3.5 legs (-3.5) at 13/10.
Adrian Lewis v Scott Mitchell – snatch Jackpot for King of the Oche
Scotty Dog just happens to be the BDO ranked number two at the moment, but has had a mixed few months – with both wins and early exits under his belt.
Mitchell has also never made it out of the Grand Slam group stage before in two previous attempts. So, Lewis looks good at 15/8 to be King of the Oche (to win match, most 180s and highest checkout. If any of the markets are tied, bets will be settled as losers) as he seeks to better his two previous best semi-final finishes. Back Jackpot to dominate!
Gary Anderson v Glen Durrant – Duzza to take three legs
It doesn’t get much tastier than this in arrow action, as the PDC’s number two and world champion Anderson takes on BDO number one Durrant.
Duzza is in dangerously good form, while The Flying Scotsman seems to have ground to a halt after failures in the World Series of Darts and European Championship.
You can back Durrant, then, to at least take a few legs off Anderson, and a 5-3 result in favour of the Scotsman at 4/1 is mighty tempting.
Brendan Dolan v Max Hopp – Maximiser to triumph
Young German hope for the future Hopp could be a prudent punt at even-money to take all the points versus Dolan. There’s not as much between the pair as odds suggest, and Maximiser arguably has the higher ceiling.
The History Maker has the experience but, in previous battles, it has been one apiece, with the bold German holding his own to win the most recent rumble. While, even in Hopp’s one loss to the Northen Irishman he pushed all the way to be downed 6-5. So, choosing Maximiser to shine in his opener in a tough Group A including Wolfie and MvG, could pay off.
Robert Thornton v Scott Waites- Scotty to sweep aside The Thorn
Punters can plump for former Grand Slam champ Waites to top his Group B at 7/4 ahead of the likes of Dimitri Van den Bergh and Gerwyn Price, which may be worth taking before his potentially decisive first duel with Thornton.
There’s a big gap between the BDO and PDC but the infamously nicknamed Scotty 2 Hotty has racked up many BDO major honours and is capable of dispatching The Thorn. Customers can grab odds of (-1.5) 11/8 then, for this Bradford-born Halifax hero to sink his Scottish opponent by over 1.5 legs in the handicap market.
Dave Chisnall v James Wilson – Chizzy most maximums in handicap market
Wilson has reason to be confident after his recent efforts to reach the World Grand Prix last 16 and European Championship quarter-finals.
However, those kind of finishes are the bare minimum expected of Chizzy, who should have more than enough in the tank to take out Jammie Dodger, as he has in their past three meetings – with all those occurring in 2016.
Chisnall is a renowned maximums man, so it then makes sense to take him in a 180 handicap market to score over 1.5 more than Wilson at a nifty (-1.5) 9/5.
James Wade v Jamie Hughes
You can get a bit of extra value on Wade in the group markets, where The Machine is 6/4 to best Chizzy, Wilson and Hughes to pole position.
While, as for his match-up with the latter, Wade is 7/2 to continue his precise performances of late and win by a 5-2 scoreline. Yozza is talented enough to take a few legs but as a newbie to the tournament should find himself outclassed overall by The Machine, who has racked up impressive results of late, including a recent whitewashing of PDC world champion Anderson.
Gerwyn Price v Dimitri van den Bergh
Ever improving Welsh darts whizz Price is an enticing 6/4 for most maximums in his match with 22-year-old Belgian Van den Bergh.
The Iceman has had many more chances to whet his oche appetite in major tournaments when compared to his much younger peer and the former rugby union player looks a fine price to win in the 180 market.
