2016 Sydney Darts Masters tips

It’s back! The World Series darts tour resumes, putting our favourite globe trotting PDC hot-shots back on live TV following a short break from the silver screen after the riveting World Matchplay.

Picking up where we left off, as Gary Anderson triumphantly claimed the Tokyo Darts Masters trophy back in July, the action now turns to Sydney, Australia, for the penultimate competition of this calendar year’s World Series events.

Punters may be used to seeing the eight seeded superstars having it all their own way in the first round of these jaunts, but they are set to come up against some serious darting pedigree in Oz.

Homegrown hopes Simon Whitlock and Kyle Anderson are just some of the familiar PDC names set to feature as the eight Oceanic qualifiers – and these outsiders from Down Under and beyond could really cause a stir.

Highlights from the first fixtures include Peter Wright’s wrangle with fellow crowd favourite Simon Whitlock, Raymond van Barneveld’s battle against foe Kyle Anderson and Michael van Gerwen’s meeting with Cody Harris.

While, Gary Anderson grapples with English-born David Platt, Phil Taylor takes on Corey Cadby, Adrian Lewis jostles with Rob Szabo, Dave Chisnall is to collide with Harley Kemp and James Wade is drawn against Rhys Mathewson.

Coral’s arrow experts have selected four top tips for the opening round and more. So, grab a beer, light up the barbie, get in the Aussie spirit and check out our suggestions below!

The Sydney oche action gets underway on Thursday, August 18th, with delayed coverage shown on ITV4 from 20:00 BST.

Aussie Anderson to shock Barney on home soil

Prepare to hear more about Kyle Anderson in the coming years, though punters may already recognise the bullish arrowsmith after he reached the last 16 of the World Matchplay and quarter-finals of the UK Open, both in 2016.

We tip the Aussie Anderson for a possible shock win on home turf, with the dartsman so dedicated to the sport he relocated across the globe to Nottingham to win a PDC tour card, as he actually has a winning record against Barney.

As one of ageing oche hero Van Barneveld’s Achilles heels, with three victories from five meetings, including their last, The Original has never been beaten by more than two legs versus Barney. So, odds of 11/8 for Kyle Anderson to reach the quarters are worth a punt.

Wright and Whitlock could go all the way

Having recently made it to the final of the European Darts Open, we don’t reckon Wright will bow out at the first hurdle here, despite being delivered arguably the toughest possible draw against The Wizard on his own Oz oche.

Still, though Whitlock sometimes struggles on TV, the boost of a home crowd should mean the Aussie runs Snakebite close in this clash of eccentric haircuts which promises plenty of showmanship.

Backing a 6-4 result in Wright’s favour is available at 9/2 with Coral, as though Whitlock may do well he is unlikely to Stop the Party…

Van Gerwen to whitewash Harris

Fresh from representing Team New Zealand at the 2016 World Cup of Darts, Harris has now pulled the short straw by bagging a first round rumble with the world number one.

Van Gerwen has some catching up to Gary Anderson to do in 2016 World Series events, so expect Mighty Mike to come flying out of the blocks.

The Codesta could well bear the brunt, with MvG having won 10 on the trot since his last defeat to The Flying Scotsman. So, why not take odds of 19/10 for the Dutch giant to win his opener against the Kiwi 6-0.

Gary Anderson a great shout to grab glory again

Finally, we take a look at Coral’s generous outright market for who will be crowned the conqueror of Sydney, and it is Scottish superstar Gary Anderson who looks the best value shout at 9/2.

The Flying Scotsman has won three of four 2016 World Series events so far, and can surpass odds-on favourite MvG again. Having downed the deadly Dutchman in both Dubai and Tokyo Masters finals so far, the world number one now holds no fear for the world champion.
