Billys Bullet the best bet at Monmore

There is some cracking Open race action at Monmore tonight on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Live Sky 468, Freesat 250) and T1 Billys Bullet rates the best bet in the 21:48.

The Mark Wallis trained son of Ace Hi Rumble has been a terrific servant and overcame serious injury to win the final of this year’s Coral Regency at Hove back in May.

He has since won at Towcester and, after getting no luck in-running in the Select Stayers at Nottingham, bounced back to score over 684m at this venue last week.

The drop back to 630m will hold no fears and he has enough early pace to clear Trap 2 to the bend.

If turning in front Billys can quickly establish a healthy lead and he is a really tenacious sort who is extremely difficult to pass when on the bunny.

Puma can roar to success

T1 Gowlane Puma is in terrific form at present and looks drawn to land the hat-trick in the 21:30.

Pat Curtin’s dog has won 14 of his 30 starts at the venue and has an impressive strike rate of 11 from 19 when sporting the red jacket.

He comes into the contest on the back of a brace of successes in A1 company and was particularly impressive in the last of those when clocking a 4.32 sectional to make all and score by 1 1/2 lengths.

This is tougher, but Puma should have little difficulty outpacing Trap 2 Global Way on the run-up to the first bend an, with main rival T3 Damson Jam preferring to be closer to the rails, can turn in front for a trap-to-line success.

Alex drawn to attack

T1 Clondotty Alex is another with a great draw and is going to be tough to beat in the 22:03.
Mark Wallis’ son of Razldazl Jayfkay has a terrific record from the red jacket and is blessed with stacks of early pace.

Once in front he finds more when challenged as he showed last week when holding on by a short-head from Along Came Finn over course and distance.

He was drawn in T2 that day and now that he has bagged his beloved draw on the rails should have little to fear from that re-opposing rival.

Alex is also entitled to come for that sighter and if turning in front I can’t envisage him being caught.

Hot on the chances of Coolavanny Rebel

T4 Coolavanny Rebel ran a stormer when runner-up in last week’s Sunderland Classic and can go one better to land the finale at 22:18.

Elaine Parker’s dog showed plenty of early pace and after getting crowded at the second ran on strongly to go down by 1 3/4 lengths Roxholme Scolari.

It was a terrific effort against a rival who produced an out of the blue smash-break, and Rebel has plenty of winning form to his name from the black jacket.

I feel he has enough early dash to clear the inside and once in front he is a strong sort who is difficult to pick-up.

Monmore selections

21:30 T1 Gowlane Puma
21:48 T1 Billys Bullet (NAP)
10:03 T1 Clondotty Alex (NB)
10:18 T4 Coolavanny Rebel
