Top scorer shouts for Group C countries
Football fans haven’t got long to wait now until the highly-awaited Euro 2016 kick-off this summer, and as part of the build-up to the France finals, Coral look at who could potentially lead their nation’s scoring charts from Group C, which features all of Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Northern Ireland.
Germany
Having already rallied to the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup and a Silver Boot accolade in 2014, German marksman Thomas Muller knows what it takes to get goals at major international tournaments and will be a key member of the world champions’ current set-up.
The Bayern Munich poacher will be a leading contender for tournament top scorer this summer but he is seen as 11/8 favourite for Coral to just finish as his nation’s best finisher, something he accomplished in qualifying with his nine strikes, ending behind only Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Meanwhile, towering frontman Mario Gomez may spring a surprise in France after his inclusion in Joachim Low’s squad, with the Besiktas hitman seen at 11/2 to top the Germany scoring standings, with Schalke wonderkid Leroy Sane a promising 20/1 to secure that feat.
Poland
Poland will take to France with qualifying’s most deadly forward within their ranks, as Bayern sharpshooter Lewandowski aims to continue his incredible season in the summer’s showcase event, and he is an obvious 6/5 leader in the top scorer odds for Adam Nawalka’s side.
The clinical Bundesliga striker heads to France on the back of an incredible 48-goal campaign for both club and country, as well as a qualifying high of 13 strikes, making him truly worthy of a Polish leading marksman punt this year.
Although, Ajax sensation Arkadiusz Milik will look to make a strong impact too, after rising to prominence in the Eredivisie for the Dutch giants, and the 22-year-old finisher is 7/2 to outscore his rampant international strike partner.
Ukraine
Dynamo Kiev attacking ace Andriy Yarmolenko is instilled as Ukraine’s most likely top scorer for Euro 2016 at 10/3, having struck seven times across all competitions during an injury-plagued term.
Although, a much more encouraging price for the Ukrainian roster is the 5/1 price on Sevilla slickster Yevhen Konoplyanka topping his country’s standings, with the La Liga wideman entering the tournament after a hugely successful season.
Konoplyanka has been increasingly linked with a move to the Premier League and, in helping the Bathtubs secure a third successive Europa League crown this year, his reputation has grown further. The Sevilla attacker could see his price-tag rise too with dazzling displays in France, and he is defintey worth considering as Ukraine’s best player in front of goal.
Northern Ireland
After a historic qualifying campaign under the guidance of Michael O’Neill, Northern Ireland will enter proceedings in Group C with a huge task ahead of them, against three strong countries that could potentially go far in France, though they will hold confidence of upsetting the odds.
The main man up front for the Green and White Army during that successful path to the France finals was Kyle Lafferty, who ended the domestic season on loan with Birmingham City from Norwich City, and he is 3/1 front runner to finish as his nation’s most prolific scorer this summer.
Despite his struggles at club level, the former Rangers frontman excelled when donning his international colours and was his country’s leading goal getter in qualifying with seven strikes, level with England skipper Wayne Rooney and behind only five other strikers.
As well as Northern Ireland’s targetman, QPR poacher Conor Washington could be in line for a strong campaign and he is 7/1 to end as highest scorer, while on-fire Will Grigg will aim to continue his recent run and is a 9/1 shot of achieving that feat.
