Butts Pop among TV tips for Monmore
David Metcalf | June 30, 2016
Early fizz can seal victory for Butts Pop
Monmore stages a good mixed card tonight which is screened live on Racing Post Greyhound TV (Sky 468, Freesat 250) and T2 Butts Pop rates the standout bet in the A1 at 20:26.
The Allan Jenkins’ trained dog has won three of his 13 starts at the venue and is a bold sort when getting on the bunny.
Butts Pop is also a pretty consistent starter and has a 4.33 sectional to his name. With Traps 1 and 3 slow starters, the son of Scolari Me Daddy has a golden opportunity to pace up and lead at the first bend.
If doing so Butts Pop is going to take some catching, as his best recent winning time of 28.34 is the quickest in the line-up.
Newinn to show rivals the Way home
In the 630m Open (19:39), T1 Newinn This Way looks to have plenty going for her.
Carla Hendy’s bitch is a game sort when getting in front and is 1-1 in the red jacket at the venue.
Her last success came in an Open at the track where, after missing the break, she showed good early pace before leading at the third to beat Moss Lane Sue by 2 1/4 lengths.
Newinn This Way clocked a 12.70 split that day, and a repeat of that should enable her to turn handy or even lead at the first bend.
With Trap 2 having his first start at the track, and Trap 3 having only had two trials at it, Newinn This Way can then use her course knowledge to maximum effect to get back to winning ways.
Tyrur Anthony looks tasty
T3 Tyrur Anthony has a good record at the venue and looks decent value to further enhance it in the A1 at 19:56.
Corren Price’s son of Kinloch Brae has been succesful in five of his starts at the track, and is three from eight in the grade.
Tyrur Anthony is also three from four from the white jacket in A1s, and a 4.30 sectional to his name.
That is quick in relation to his rivals on either side, and Tyrur Anthony looks to hold major claims of turning in front at the first bend. If doing so he is going to be a tough nut to peg back.
Finn drawn to attack
In the other Open on the card over the standard 480m (20.11), T6 Along Came Finn can take advantage of what looks a cracking draw to land the spoils.
Julie Bateson’s dog has just one win to his name, and that came in a heat of the Puppy Derby over the course and distance back in March from the striped jacket.
He comes into the contest on the back of a good solo trial at Sunderland, and this represents an easier task than he has faced of late.
Along Came Finn is also the sole wide side in the line-up, and this looks a nice opportunity for him to ping the lids and exploit possible crowding on the inside to lead from trap to line.
