Top scorer shouts for French and Swiss

Euro 2016 is just around the corner, and ahead of the big kick-off, Coral have plenty of special odds for punters to enjoy during what should be an enthralling summer of international football.

Both hosts France and Switzerland will contest in Group A this summer and, with the two nations possessing plenty of astute attacking stars capable of taking the tournament by storm, here are four players from each that could top their respective country’s scoring charts…

France

Antoine Griezmann

Spain Soccer La Liga

Atletico Madrid marksman Griezmann has enjoyed a superb season in front of goal, having netted an impressive 33 times in all competitions for club and country, including three in his final five outings of the campaign.

The 25-year-old frontman leads the host nation’s top scoring odds at 2/1 to finish with the biggest tally, with the La Liga forward having recently endured Champions League final heartache at the hands of bitter city rivals Real Madrid.

Griezmann was unable to dispatch a penalty during play in Milan, but he showed great mental strength in the eventual shoot-out to tuck home his spot-kick, but still came out on the losing side. He will look to banish that misery with success on home soil this summer for his country though, as he gets set to play a vital role.

Anthony Martial

Manchester United v Everton - Barclays Premier League - Old Trafford

Since being made the world’s most expensive teenager last year, Manchester United forward Martial has burst onto the scene in incredible fashion, racking up 17 strikes on all fronts and becoming one of the Red Devils’ key players at such a tender age.

The now 20-year-old forced his way into Didier Deschamps’ thinking earlier in the term with his dazzling displays and is 6/1 to finish as Les Bleus’ top scorer on home turf this summer, when he could truly flourish on a grand stage.

Paul Pogba

Italy Soccer Champions League

Juventus midfield maestro Pogba will take to the Euros with the hopes of a nation on his young shoulders after helping guide his club to a fourth successive Serie A crown, and the 23-year-old is 8/1 to finish atop France’s scoring standings.

The Old Lady ace is tipped as the next major star of European football and solid appearances in the summer could help boost his reputation, as well as his price-tag, with Real Madrid and a host of Premier League outfits reportedly lining up bids.

Dimitri Payet

Manchester United v West Ham United - Emirates FA Cup - Quarter Final - Old Trafford

West Ham United playmaker Payet turned out to be one of the signings of the season with his emphatic outings in east London helping Slaven Bilic’s Hammers enjoy a successful campaign in which they said goodbye to their long-standing home Upton Park.

The Frenchman looked set to be overlooked by Deschamps earlier in the term but his displays simply could not be ignored for this summer’s showcase event, and he is now 10/1 to fire in his nation’s most goals in their own backyard.

Switzerland

Haris Seferovic

Germany Soccer Bundesliga

Eintracht Frankfurt frontman Seferovic is the front runner to end as the Swiss top scorer in France, having recently struck in his club’s relegation play-off encounter with Nuremberg to secure their status as a top-flight outfit.

The frontman leads the way at 5/2 to end as his country’s top scorer, despite his earlier decisive strike which kept his club up being only his fourth in total during the season.

Eren Derdiyok

Switzerland - Germany

Kasimpasa midfielder Derdiyok enters proceedings on French soil on the back of an impressive personal campaign, having recorded 14 strikes in 33 appearances for club and country.

That applaudable tally includes a Euro qualifying effort against San Marino last year and the 27-year-old is 7/1 to continue his rampant run into the summer by finishing atop Switzerland’s scoring charts.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Brazil Soccer WCup Honduras Switzerland

After making a shock move from Bayern Munich to Stoke City last summer, it took Potters forward Shaqiri a while to find his feet in the Premier League, but the former Inter Milan wideman discovered some form in the latter stages and will look to have an impact for his country.

The Swiss international is a promising 4/1 to end as the highest scorer for his nation this summer, after racking up four goals, more than any national teammate, and five assists in qualifying when they finished second to England.

Granit Xhaka

FC Bayern Munich vs Borussia Moenchengladbach

Arsenal fans will be very keen observers of the Swiss’ summer exploits in France after midfielder Xhaka completed a big-money move to north London, and the former Bundesliga battler is 14/1 to finish as his nation’s top scorer.

The previous Borussia Monchengladbach enforcer only managed three goals all season in Germany but his team won on every occasion he successfully slotted home, and he will aim to showcase why exactly the Gunners forked out £35m for his services.
