Young-guns and crowd-favourites in action
After a thrilling first week at the 2016 PDC World Darts Championship, six players return to the oche on Sunday in the afternoon to battle it out for a place in the last 16.
The likes of exciting prospect Michael Smith, quick-fire Dutchman Vincent van der Voort and young compatriot Benito van de Pas are all in action, and you can read Coral’s betting preview below…
Michael Smith v Steve Beaton
Double BDO major winner Beaton is still going strong aged 51, though has not progressed past the second round of this event since way back in 2005, and his 10/3 match odds suggest he’ll struggle against rising star Smith.
Bully Boy found it tough to come through his opener this year against Jeffrey de Zwaan, but has defeated The Bronzed Adonis in their last four meetings, and six of their previous seven, so is the clear 2/9 favourite.
Smith, a former World Youth champion and Grand Slam of Darts semi-finalist this year, should be able to make lighter work of Beaton, and is 7/2 to win 4-2.
Dimitri van den Bergh v Benito van de Pas
Dutch 24th seed Van de Pas (1/2) has already seen off one fellow youngster in teenager Max Hopp, and now must go up against another in Belgium’s Van den Bergh (13/8).
Big Ben has won their last two duels, though The Dreammaker did see off world number nine Ian White so this could go all the way. Van de Pas is 9/2 to edge it 4-3, therefore.
Vincent van der Voort v Kyle Anderson
In the last battle of the session, two crowd favourites go up against each other, with the rapid throwing and highly-talented Van der Voort (8/11) taking on Aussie Anderson (11/10), who has managed a nine-darter at this event before.
The older and more experienced VdV perhaps holds the edge having reached three World Championship quarter-finals before, but The Original has the ability to produce magic moments.
This could go the distance too, and The Dutch Destroyer is a very tempting 4/1 price to claim a 4-3 victory, while there are odds available of 40/1 for there to be a perfect leg in this clash.
