After Pep Guardiola teased the footballing world that he’d declare his future with Bayern Munich “tomorrow, tomorrow”, following his side’s 2-1 win over Hannover, it is now confirmed that he will leave in the summer. Carlo Ancelotti will replace him at the Allianz Arena.

The Italian will sign a three-year deal until 2019, with Guardiola’s contract up at the end of the season with the Bavarians (13/5 with Coral to win the Champions League).

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “We are grateful for everything that Pep has given us and we’re hoping to celebrate many successes before the end of this season.

“With Ancelotti, once again a very good coach joins Bayern Munich. We look forward to working with him.”

Such news may or may not affect the Bayern players, four of whom have only just signed new deals (Thomas Muller, Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez and Xabi Alonso), as they still challenge for the same treble they won under Jupp Heynckes in 2012/13.

Pep off to Premier League?

So, what now for Guardiola? The Catalan has already won so much back in his native Barcelona and now in the Bundesliga, so many have touted his next move to be in the Premier League.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini said the rather bizarre words about the fellow former La Liga manager taking over from his job in the future.

“Pep Guardiola will work here,” the Chilean ex-Malaga coach said. “I don’t know if it will be next season here at City, or even at another club, but I am sure that one day he will come to the Premier League.

“And I hope he will have the option to work at Manchester City. I say that because I love this club and I hope, in the future, he can work here also. I am sure that he will be very important for the club.

“A lot of things will happen in the future. But when is the future? You never know. It might be next year. But I don’t worry. The only thing I am worried about is this year, trying to win the most amount of trophies I can.”

However, with Louis van Gaal under serious pressure at Man Utd as well as Guardiola’s known friendship with Sir Alex Ferguson, it is also being said that he could make Old Trafford his destination.

No doubt the likes of Chelsea, who have just sacked Jose Mourinho and replaced him with interim Guus Hiddink, and Arsenal will also be keeping tabs on the former Spain international.

While, with Roy Hodgson’s tenure with England potentially ending after Euro 2016 this summer, could Pep be tempted by the Three Lions job?

One thing’s for sure, though, that Bayern will be getting their hands on yet another world class head coach, with Ancelotti having won three Champions League with AC Milan (twice) and Real Madrid. Only Bob Paisley with Liverpool has claimed the same amount of European Cup trophies as a manager.

The Italian, who also gained success with Chelsea, signs on a three-year deal from when Guardiola’s contract ends this summer, and spoke on his appointment.

“I am very honoured that I will be coach of the great club FC Bayern from next season,” the 56-year-old said.
