Van Gerwen, Lewis, Wright all feature in Thursday’s second round frays

On Thursday evening, the Civic Hall plays host to the final four fixtures of the Grand Slam of Darts second round, with big-names Michael van Gerwen, Adrian Lewis and Peter Wright all involved.

Which darts stars will make it to the coveted quarter-finals? Official tournament betting partner Coral runs the rule over four thrilling clashes, as the last 16 comes to a close. Readers can also take a look at our preview for Wednesday’s second round scuffles.

Michael van Gerwen v Steve Beaton

Darts - Betway Premier League Darts - Brighton Centre
The Grand Slam is one major crown Mighty Mike is yet to claim, but his route to the quarters appears smooth, as opponent Beaton only qualified from the group stage on leg difference. Brit The Bronzed Adonis has already been beaten twice, so is unlikely at 8/1 to halt Van Gerwen.

Having smashed through his opening two fixtures with ease, the dominant Dutch darter almost came unstuck against another Englishman in Steve West due to complacency, but an odds-on 1/16 price for victory reflects Van Gerwen’s superior standing in the sport.

Mighty Mike and The Bronzed Adonis have met on the Grand Slam stage before and, though that group grapple ended 10-7 to the former, powerful thrower Van Gerwen could win by a far bigger margin this time, with odds of 6/1 for a 10-5 scoreline in his favour.

Martin Adams v Kim Huybrechts

Darts - 2014 William Hill World Darts Championship - Day Eight - Alexandra Palace
Three-time BDO world champion Wolfie wowed crowds by storming to the top of Pool B, with three wins on the bounce to take out a trio of PDC stars. Now impressive Adams faces Belgian hitman Huybrechts for the first time in a singles tussle, and could prove excellent value at 6/4 to roll with the punches and win again in Wolverhampton.

The Hurricane is a tempestuous tungsten figure, which can often prove his undoing. Yet, having reached the semi-finals of the Grand Slam in 2014, the PDC world number 13 is rated an 8/15 favourite.

Adrian Lewis v Peter Wright

Darts - McCoy's Premier League Darts - Metro Radio Arena
Jackpot and Snakebite have duelled on seven occasions this calendar year already, so are more than familiar foes, as they continue to wrestle for oche prominence.

Their battle resumes here, and Lewis is 4/5 favourite despite losing his last two encounters against Wright, with those defeats occurring in prestigious quarter-finals. So, with the balance tipped slightly in Scot Snakebite’s favour, back the quirky, cult hero at evens to emerge triumphant again.

Lewis squeezed past pointless Wayne Jones in his last outing to nab second spot, while Wright surged ahead of Dave Chisnall to claim Group D spoils after a wobbly start. So, with neither showing their best finishing form yet, odds of 8/1 for Snakebite to win 10-9 in a close clash look most appealing. While, customers may also be tempted to plump for a 20/1 price for the duo to tie highest checkout.

Michael Smith v Dave Chisnall

Darts - BDO 2010 Lakeside World Championships - Day Nine - Lakeside Country Club
Merseyside-born oche up-and-comer Smith is another intriguing shout at 11/8 to defeat inconsistent Chizzy. Bully Boy starred in Group C, pipping Jackpot to the winner’s spot and slaying Lewis 5-3 along the way for good measure, so could prove a surprise package again.

Chisnall, meanwhile, dazzled to deceive, after following up his nine-darter heroics with a dismal 5-1 defeat to rock-bottom opponent Scott Mitchell. This cost the maximums man first place, but he is 4/7 favourite to redeem himself here. Though it depends which Chizzy turns up, as Smith has bested him before on this stage.
