Wawrinka is value to repeat Paris Masters result

  • Ilie Nastase Group gets underway at ATP World Tour Finals
  • Wawrinka held nerve to record tiebreak wins in Paris
  • Nadal has never won end of year tournament

Why Wawrinka will win again

Tennis world number four Stan Wawrinka begins his bid to win the ATP World Tour Finals on Monday, when he takes on Rafael Nadal in London’s O2 Arena.

Coral make late-blooming Swiss star Wawrinka an awesome 11/4 price to repeat his straight set victory over the Spaniard from their recent Paris Masters quarter-final match-up.

It took two sets edged on tiebreaks to overcome ‘the King of clay’ on an indoor hard surface similar to what these top tennis pros will play on at the ATP World Tour Finals, but Wawrinka is having the better of recent encounters.

Three out of four ain’t bad

From their last encounters since the start of the 2014 season, Wawrinka boasts a hugely impressive 75 per cent win ratio when paired with Nadal, and two of his three victories have bee on hard courts.

Nadal has lost seven of his last 10 matches on this surface that have been against fellow players ranked among the top 10, so those two stats combine and point to Wawrinka winning.

The 2014 Australian Open final appears to have been the turning point in this rivalry between these two, which Wawrinka sealed in four sets.

Nadal is injury prone

For all his accolades, Spanish sensation Nadal is often hampered by injuries, and Wawrinka will know to make the court as big as possible to stretch his opponent’s match fitness.

Nadal is still regaining that after a disrupted season, and Wawrinka has no margin for error as the Ilie Nastase Group also contains second season Andy Murray. Only two go through from the pool to the ATP World Tour semi-finals.

Wawrinka has had the better of Nadal in recent times, and the Spaniard struggles for form in elite encounters like this, so take that 11/4 price on the Swiss securing this latest meeting in straight sets.
