World Grand Prix 2nd round: Van Gerwen faces nemesis Huybrechts

With top names already out of the unique ‘double in, double out’ World Grand Prix event, 2015 Premier League Darts stars Michael van Gerwen, Kim Huybrechts, Dave Chisnall and Adrian Lewis are all aiming to avoid exiting Dublin too on Tuesday night.

Coral writers preview the four second round fixtures, that could yet produce more upsets…

Michael Smith v Jamie Lewis

Darts - 2014 William Hill World Darts Championship - Day Four - Alexandra Palace

This is the first time both Smith and Lewis have reached the last 16 here, but the duo only just made it through after barely edging respective opponents Gerwyn Price and home hope William O’Connor in the first round.

But eighth seed Bully Boy boats a 5-3 career record over fellow youngster Rasta, so is the odds-on favourite at 1/3. Welshman Lewis, though, won their only meeting this year to date 6-5 in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, so is 9/4 to win and 11/2 to do so 3-2.

Dave Chisnall v Jelle Klaasen

Darts - 2014 William Hill World Darts Championship - Day Seven - Alexandra Palace

Chizzy came though one of the toughest opening round draws against fellow top 10-ranked star Peter Wright, and has been rewarded with a duel with Brendan Dolan’s conqueror Jelle Klaasen.

There should be no shocks in this clash, with Chisnall (2/5 match favourite) being a runner-up here in 2013, while the Cobra (15/8) has reached this stage for the first time. Chizzy is a more enticing 12/5 to beat the Dutchman 3-1.

Michael van Gerwen v Kim Huybrechts

Belgian Huybrechts finally got his first World Grand Prix legs, on his way to a debut win in this event, as he came back to defeat exiting young Dutchman Benito van de Pas.

Title favourite Van Gerwen (7/4) looked shaky and rattled at times against world youth champion Keegan Brown, despite recording the highest average of the opening night, and has found it tough in meetings with the Hurricane in the past.

Huybrechts (match 4/1 chance), who has won eight of their 18 head-to-heads, and beat Mighty Mike (1/6 odds-on favourite) last time they faced each other in July, so is brilliant value at 17/2 to defeat him again 3-2.

Adrian Lewis v Mark Webster

Darts - 2011 Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship - Day Thirteen - Alexandra Palace

In the other crunch clash on Monday night, Lewis (9/1 title fourth-favourite) came out on top against an off-key Raymond van Barneveld, and was the only one not to concede a set.

Former BDO world champion Webster (10/3 match shout), meanwhile, had to dig deep in his victory over Stephen Bunting, and may be up against it in his next tie with recent Auckland Masters winner Jackpot (odds-on 2/9 favourite), who is great form.

Coral’s top tip: Back Huybrechts to beat Van Gerwen 3-2 @ an incredible 17/2 price
