Klopp remains undefeated after three games
With Jurgen Klopp aiming for his first win as Liverpool boss and Bournemouth in search of theirs against the Reds in history, this made for an intriguing matchup.
However, despite some standout individual performances, it was perhaps not as competitive a game as many would’ve hoped, but nonetheless the hosts will be happy to reach the Capital One Cup quarter-finals. Cherries manager Eddie Howe won’t mind either perhaps, due to the number of injuries his side have suffered.
The two teams could’ve had a goal apiece in the opening five minutes, though, with the hosts’ Roberto Firmino getting a chance almost straight from kick-off that unfortunately was weak and untesting.
Not long after, Junior Stanislas could and should’ve scored, after creating an opportunity for himself in the area, but Adam Bogdan saved well down low to avoid going behind.
Brazilian Firmino got a second chance after quarter of an hour, and this time managed to strike more cleanly by forcing Adam Federici into tipping over the bar.

Just a couple minutes later, though, young Portuguese attacker Joao Carlos Teixeira produced a moment of magic, after being played through on goal by Firmino where he back-heeled past the keeper.
Adam Smith was able to clear off the line, but full back Nathaniel Clyne was at hand to finish it off for his first goal for the club to put his side 1-0 up and spark a passionate response from boss Klopp.
Firmino seemed determined to get off the mark since joining the Reds in the summer too, and with 10 minutes of the opening half to go, he used skill before producing a decent curling effort on target. However, it was caught by the outstretched Federici.
After a slow start to the second-half, it was Firmino, who was a menace all evening, that had the first meaningful effort. He was through on goal from a sight angle but was just wide of the far post.
Bogdan in top form to ensure clean sheet
At the other end, Hungarian Bogdan continued to impress, this time as he did well to keep out Stanislas’ goal-bound free-kick at the near post from an angle.
In what was a rather uneventful second-half, substitute Lucas Leiva got the crowd something to get off their seat for after his vicious shot from out the area with 15 minutes to go. But unfortunately it was straight at the keeper, who punched away, and supporters sat back down.
The Australian stopper had to be on the ball again in the 80th minute, this time from Teixeira’s placed free-kick and he was able to read him this time.
Bournemouth’s standout star this season Matt Ritchie nearly forced the game into extra-time with a late tester for Bogdan, but again the Hungarian save well to his left to palm away.
All in all, despite a dull midweek affair, Liverpool and Klopp will certainly be encouraged by a number of their youngsters that featured and impressed.

And, after three matches in charge of the Reds, new boss Klopp is still undefeated ahead of the crunch weekend clash at Chelsea.
