Five top European Championship tips

Ahead of the upcoming European Championship darts event, Coral writers provide punters with five top tips to take for a chance to win big.

Read on below to check out our hand-picked bets, and also take a peak at our first round afternoon and evening session previews…

Kim Huybrechts wins second quarter

International Darts Open in Riesa

With the event being held in Belgium for the first time, it gives home hope and recent European Darts Grand Prix champion Huybrechts an extra edge. While winning the European Championship may be a bit out of his reach at this stage, his quarter features just the likes of Scottish duo Robert Thornton and Peter Wright, who he is perfectly capable of beating on his day.

The Hurricane will also be buoyed by the fact that he and even his half-brother Ronny have reached the semis in this competition before, when it was held in Mulheim, Germany. So, take these tempting odds of 4/1 for Huybrechts to win his quarter.

Nine-dart finish

Darts - 2014 William Hill World Darts Championship - Day Eleven - Alexandra Palace

There have been a flurry of nine-darters in competitions since the summer this year, and Michael van Gerwen managed one in the 2014 edition of this event.

Adrian Lewis also boasts a European Championship perfect leg, back in 2011, which makes these odds of 2/1 for another very enticing.

Peter Wright reaches final

Peter Wright

Although in the same quarter as Huybrechts, if that bet fails then look no further than Snakebite to wiggle his way to his third major final, and second this year after just missing out at the Coral UK Open.

Wright was also runner-up at the Japan Darts Masters this summer, and is a sensational 7/1 shout to do so here in Belgium too.

No 170 checkout

International Darts Open in Riesa

This might not be a positive bet to take for such a high profile event, but in the seven editions of the European Championship just three maximum checkouts have been thrown, two of whom have not qualified this year.

No ‘triple 20, triple 20, bullseye’ combo was achieved last year either, with Van Gerwen coming closest with a 167, so take a 7/4 price for none to be seen in Belgium either.

First-time winner

Darts - McCoys Premier League - BIC

For the last four editions of this tournament, there has been a different winner each time, as Phil Taylor, Simon Whitlock, Adrian Lewis and, most recently, Van Gerwen, have shared the title. That, and the fact that there have been a total of eight different finalists here, suggests that another looks likely to lift the trophy.

The above quartet don’t qualify for this bet, but the likes of world and Premier League champion Gary Anderson, Wright, Dave Chisnall, James Wade, Huybrechts, Raymond van Barneveld and recent Grand Prix winner Thornton make odds of 6/5 look tempting.
