Five brilliant Bundesliga transfers from this summer so far

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

German football continues to gain ground on other top leagues across the continent, with the Bundesliga’s enthralling mix of burgeoning young talents, passionate crowds and fast-paced playing style winning fans across the globe.

More majestic business has been done yet again this summer to strengthen, from headline-grabbing transfers to more intriguing under-the-radar deals. Here are Coral writers’ picks of five of the best switches to have happened so far…

Thorgan Hazard (Chelsea to Borussia Monchengladbach)
Close to the Dutch border, Monchengladbach (11/10 with Coral for a top four finish) are becoming a force to be reckoned with, having finished third in the top flight last term whilst boasting a set of intriguing midfield talents such as Hazard, Patrick Herrmann, on-loan Christoph Kramer and Granit Xhaka.

Though Kramer has returned to parent club Bayer Leverkusen, the Borussians have managed to retain Hazard, younger brother of Chelsea’s Eden. It is not surprising that due to the wealth of stars at Stamford Bridge the Blues resisted the urge for a family reunion, but it will be fascinating to see how the 22-year-old flourishes with the stability of a permanent home behind him.

Hazard may not be among the echelons of the elite, but is a promising player in his own right, capable of some sublime moments of skill just like his older sibling. See his highlights here:

Yoshinori Muto (FC Tokyo to Mainz)
Few footballers would turn down the chance to play at Chelsea, but flexible forward Muto has a sensible head on his young shoulders, and instead opted to enter the European stage by switching to mid-table Mainz instead.

Game time, rather than shirt sales and a spot on the bench, should be the 23-year-old’s reward at the Coface Arena, where the 13-capped Japan international is expected to find acres of space.

One to watch, having hit 12 from 21 in 2015 so far, could Muto to Mainz be the latest in a long line for successful exchanges between East Asia and the Bundesliga? Take a peek a Muto’s talents:

Matija Nastasic (Manchester City to Schalke)
Premier League fans already know all about Nastasic, who once promised to solve City’s centre back problems, making 21 league appearances in his maiden campaign.

Following teething problems that usually accompany a young defender’s adaptation to the grueling demands of top tier competition, the Sky Blues may eventually rue letting the Serbian centre half slip through their grasp.

Having convinced Schalke (2/1 for a top four finish) to take a chance on him following a successful loan spell, Nastasic once again has the world at his feet and, at age 22, will probably become a fashionable tip for next top defender after a few more terms in Germany. Can Nastasic make the difference for Schalke?

Fabian Schar (Basel to Hoffenheim)
Everyone’s favourite goal scoring Swiss centre back surprisingly decided on Hoffenheim, having been linked to a host of Premier League clubs when leaving Basel on a Bosman.

A star for both Switzerland and for the RotBlau, this could prove a sensible switch as Schar seems the patient type. Surely it will not be long before the 23-year-old brings Hoffenheim a pretty penny when he eventually makes a bigger move.

They’re virtually guaranteed to make a profit on the reported £5m fee. Is Schar destined for great things? We’ve always thought so and here’s why:

Arturo Vidal (Juventus to Bayern Munich)
Tenacious Vidal’s all-action style does not appear a natural fit for a Pep Guardiola philosophy, but Bayern are clearly thinking long-term here with their acquisition of the Chile international.

The box-to-box dynamo should be a sensation at the Allianz Arena if his new coach allows him off the leash, and his high-profile, big-money capture from Italian giants Juventus is a boost for the whole Bundesliga, where he has played before with Bayer Leverkusen.

On his day and injury-free there are few better, so view Vidal’s best moments:
