Tiger Woods aims for win as The Open at St Andrews takes centre stage

Three-time Open winner Tiger Woods has said he can win The Open as he targets a 15th major win. He is an outright 35/1 for victory with Coral at St Andrews as we return to the home of golf.
With world number one and last year’s winner Rory McIlroy out with an injury, it could well be an open field (no pun intended) however, Jordan Spieth, who has won both majors of the year so far, stands in his way and is the 11/2 favourite.
Meanwhile, with Woods claiming that his game is “heading in the right direction”, he is now targeting The Open to return to form; a tournament which has been kind to him over the years.
“My body’s finally good. I’m just not as wiry and as whippy as I used to be. And being 39 versus 19 is totally different,” Woods said.
“If you’re making changes you have to take a couple of steps backwards before you make the giant leap forward – if you look throughout my career when I’ve made swing changes I’ve gone through that suffering period and I’ve come out pretty good on the other side.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve found the solution – it’s a process, an evolution, making subtle shifts, fine tuning and getting the overall pattern different, and that takes time,” he continued.
“I’m starting to feel like I’m getting more consistent – the last round at Greenbrier was probably the best I’ve hit in a couple of years.
“I know I’m heading in the right direction. It’s going take a tremendous amount of work and a lot of patience but I’ll get there eventually.”
If Woods is to win, he will no doubt be challenged by the likes of Louis Oosthuizen and Dustin Johnson, both of whom tied for second at the US Open.
The duo are 11/2 and 11/4 respectively for a top five finish and have shown good form in recent weeks, while Ireland’s Shane Lowry is a great outside bet to secure a top 10 place at 7/2, after tying joint-ninth with McIlroy and Australia’s Jason Day.
Another golfer to watch could well be home hope Justin Rose, who has also been consistent this year and is 22/1 paying out five places as an each way bet (tick the box on the betting slip to confirm this), while Adam Scott who tied for fourth at Chambers Bay may be a solid bet at 20/1 in the same market.
