Coral make Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy the 14/5 favourite to retain the BMW PGA Golf Championship and, following a good showing at the US Masters in Augusta, he will be looking to build on that in Surrey.

After his dominant seven-shot victory at the Wells Fargo Championship, McIlroy was upbeat, and is confident he can transfer this form into the tournament at Wentworth.

“Everything is firing on all cylinders for me,” said McIlroy after winning. “The golf course just sets up really well for me.”

“It was a more controlled run,” continued McIlroy speaking of his recent Wells Fargo triumph compared to recent. “I feel like I’m a more controlled player these days. I’ve learned how to finish things off. I had a goal to go out there and birdie the par-fives and the two drivable par-fours.

“I knew if I made six birdies there was pretty much no chance that anybody could catch me. With my length and the way I’m driving it, it’s a big advantage around here and it showed this week,” continued the Northern Irishman.

“I did what I wanted the last few weeks, got a couple of wins, got myself up the Fedex Cup standings and solidified my positions in the rankings.”

Also in contention, after his impressive performance at Augusta, will be Englishman Justin Rose, who tied second with Phil Mickelson and played some of the best golf of his career. He is second favourite at 10/1 to win and 9/1 for an outright each way bet paying out five places.

Matteo Massanero, who won the tournament in 2013, is a decent 3/1 price to be the top Italian golfer at Wentworth, and 100/1 to record an outright finish with an each way bet, paying out for a finish over five places.

British golf fans in general will be hoping that Lee Westwood can pick up some form, and after trailing off in the US Masters, is third favourite at 33/1 and 13/2 for a top five finish.

Coral recommended bet: Rory McIlroy win @ 14/5
