Orient’s home advantage may not take them through Posh play-off

Peterborough United have won on two of their last three visits to Leyton Orient. If Posh do so again – an attractive 5/2 chance with Coral in 90 minutes – then they will contest the League One play-off final.

London outfit Orient, rather joint 9/4 chances with Rotherham United to go up, are actually odds-on favourites to grace Wembley (8/13) and 6/5 shots for victory in normal time. A draw, which will mean this play-off tie could go the distance, is 23/10.

Posh’s 5/4 price to get through to the final is decent value, as is 4/1 on them being promoted, considering their record in the end of season competition is better than opponents Orient. Darren Ferguson will once again be looking to top scorer Britt Assombalonga for goals, and he is also 5/4 in the anytime market, or 5/1 to net first again – as he did in the first leg.

Right-sided player Moses Odubajo levelled for Orient to keep the tie in the balance but, at 7/2 to be on target again at Brisbane Road, Russell Slade will expect strikes for more reliable sources this time.

Other attacking players Dean Cox (10/3 anytime), Kevin Lisbie (5/4) and leading marksman David Mooney (evens) must fire, if the Londoners are to make it through to face either Rotherham or third-tier promotion expert Simon Grayson’s Preston North End.

Punters must not discount veteran Posh midfielder Grant McCann, who played an integral part in their last successful play-off campaign. The Northern Ireland international scored three in as many outings in the 2011 edition, so back him to make the right impact off the bench at 11/2.

Left-footer Tommy Rowe is also tempting at 4/1 – after netting home and away during the regular season against Orient. Both sides have scored in each of the last six meetings, so take the 7/10 price on this happening once more.

Your best bet looks to be backing either Orient or Peterborough to win with the opposition also getting on target. The hosts are 18/5 in this market, while Posh are 5/1.
