We trip around Europe for our value
Competitive matches are now thin on the ground, and we won’t get anything like the excitement of Saturday’s Champions League final, but there are bets there for football punters happy to work for them, with International friendlies taking place, as well as a sprinkling of ties from around Europe.
Republic of Ireland take on Uruguay at the Aviva Stadium as the locals keep sharp for their upcoming World Cup qualifier. There’s also Holland’s match with Ivory Coast and a round of games from the Norwegian Tippeligaen. Follow our Sunday acca, where £5 down pays £308.65, if our thinking is correct.
Ireland beat Uruguay
It’s always worth being cautious when betting on international friendlies as you never quite know what you’re going to get. Here we’re on an ambitious and in-form Irish side who will aim to be competitive, and give their fans something to cheer about. Martin O’Neill’s men are joint-top of World Cup qualifying Group D after five games played, showing a record of three wins and two draws. They won’t risk anything in this one, but are a side high on morale, and all fighting for a place in the starting line-up. They will, of course, need a big effort to win this, but our traders look to have been a tad hasty in writing them off. Coral’s 9/5 looks well worth a shot.
Holland beat Ivory Coast
This looks rather straight-forward, but our 7/10 appears to be a bit of a treat, and will do a job in our accumulator. These sides have only met once before, back at the World Cup in 2006 when The Dutch grafted to a 2-1 win. Robin Van Persie and Ruud Van Nistelrooy were on the scoresheet that day, but we’re expecting an easier time of things here. The selection have been far from convincing in World Cup qualifiers so far, sitting fourth in Group A, but improvement is expected under new boss Dick Advocaat, who’s back where he belongs.
Kristiansund beat Viking
It doesn’t take much to oppose Viking in the Tippeligaen, sitting bottom of the pile, and feeling sorry for themselves. They have picked up just five points so far this season, off a record reading one win, two draws and eight defeats. Kristiansund are certainly no world beaters themselves, but are unbeaten in two and have lost just one of their last half-dozen. 15/4 looks cracking value, and we don’t need asking twice. That price is much bigger than we expected it to be, so let’s grab the traders’ generosity with both hands.
Rosenborg beat Stromsgodset
Rosenborg go into the weekend top of the league, and looking every inch a side capable of staying there throughout the season. They have lost just one match in this campaign to date, a 2-1 reverse to Tromso last month. Opponents Stromsgodset have won just one of their last six, and we’re sticking with the trends. 2/5 is short, but it deserves to be about a very capable side in flying form. A perfect addition to keep us ticking over.
Sarpsborg beat Molde
Lastly, we go against a visiting Molde side who haven’t quite caught the imagination so far. They have won their last two, but that remains their only positives in seven, and came on the back of three defeats on the bounce. Sarpsborg are at home and could go top of the league with the right set of results. They’re unbeaten in five, and have a real chance of pushing for the major places this year.
