Tottenham beat Watford
It doesn’t pay to oppose Tottenham this season, so we won’t on Saturday when hosting London rivals Watford. Spurs impressed in midweek when fighting back from a goal down to beat Swansea in Wales, and although they left it late, that was their fifth win in-a-row. It’s unlikely they’ll catch Chelsea, but they do look nailed on for second-place. Watford are capable, but have won just four of 10. The home win starts us off at 2/9.
West Ham beat Swansea
Another London side at home, but West Ham don’t boast the kind of form Spurs do. In fact, it’s pretty much the opposite. Winless in seven, losing each of their last five, The Hammers have been dragged down to 15th, but have been playing well in defeat. The home side have scored nine goals in their last seven starts, and will get plenty of chances against a Swansea who have allowed 12 during the same period. I expect goals in this one, with West Ham just edging it. 21/20 looks fair.
Southampton beat West Brom
The Saints have been a bit stop-start of late but they caught the eye in midweek, battling back from a goal down against Palace to win 3-1, halting The Eagles unbeaten run in the process. This will be a step up in grade against The Baggies, but their opponents have won just one of their last five, as they run down the clock. Looks a 50/50, but we’re taking a chance on Southampton at 6/4.
Man City beat Hull
Hull have scratched their way out of the relegation zone, thanks to three wins in four, but they come up against City at the wrong time, and could duck back under. The Citizens have been far from their best, and lost to Chelsea on Wednesday, meaning they’re now winless in four. On their own patch they will pull rank over a side from the other end of the table, surely. 2/11 home win is made for accas.
Chelsea beat Bournemouth
The Blues had a little wobble last week when losing to Crystal Palace. These things happen over the course of a title winning season, but it had many predicting Spurs to run them close and the title race was back on. OK, we were guilty of overreacting too, but I think most fans wanted it to be true, and craved a bit of drama. Conte’s side kept things simple, beating Man City in midweek to remain seven points clear at the top. They’ll beat Bournemouth at a very handy 8/13.
Fulham beat Ipswich
Having worked their way into the promotion play-off places, Fulham look to have choked when things got serious, winning just one of their last four, resulting in them falling back down to seventh. A home tie against lowly Ipswich will tell us just how serious they are, and we’re giving them the benefit of the doubt. Ipswich have won only one of their last nine. The draw’s a worry, but 1/2 is something we can work with.
Newcastle beat Sheff Weds
Newcastle must put their foot on the gas and drive this title party home. They’ve had plenty of chances to get over the line already this season, but have fluffed their lines. Away from the pressures of St James Park they should beat an Owls side who have won just one of their last five. 7/5 is a generous offer.
Partick beat Motherwell
We finish up with a visit to the Scottish top-flight, and Glasgow’s third-club Partick, who currently sit in the top-six, and are unbeaten in seven. They appeal vs an opponent a point above the relegation zone, with one win in nine. Grasp the Thistle at 3/4.
