2016 WTA Finals Tuesday tips

The end of season WTA Finals moves on to its second group games on Tuesday, with women’s tennis world number one Angelique Kerber set for an intriguing encounter with top Romanian export Simona Halep. Both are joint 11/4 favourites with Coral to win this event.

Also in action in Singapore are America’s number two Madison Keys and late qualifier Dominika Cibulkova from Slovakia, though neither are fancied to progress from this pool.

With the big Red Group showdown and tasty Kerber v Halep odds in prospect, what are our top 2016 WTA Finals Tuesday tips and day 3 bets? Here’s what our tennis experts think…

Crazy Kerber v Halep odds

There is no splitting Germany’s reigning Australian and US Open champion Kerber and consistent WTA Tour performer Halep in the outright match betting at 10/11 apiece.

Dual Grand Slam winner Kerber may be 4-3 down on the overall head-to-head with the Romanian, and 4-1 from previous hard court meetings, but her improvement against Halep this year is remarkable.

From four fixtures across three surfaces, Kerber leads 3-1 and she’s also taken the second set in each of the last five encounters, so siding with her at 5/6 makes sense here.

Other Kerber v Halep odds that appeal are over 2.5 sets at 6/5, because the German dropped one against Cibulkova. Couple that with Halep’s struggles against Kerber this season, and that suggests their latest battle may well go the distance.

Keys to continue comfortable Cibulkova record

Sixth seed Keys (evens to win) has three victories in as many meetings with Slovakia’s Cibulkova (somehow a narrow 4/5 match favourite), though the latter retired in one of those.

Punters should not be swayed by the way Halep rolled Keys over, dropping just six games en route to victory. Cibulkova is an opponent she’s never lost to, and all the American’s victories have come on hard surfaces.

The two completed previous matches ended in straight sets victories for Keys, so take 12/5 on a 2-0 win again. Cibulkova’s resistance to Kerber in her Red Group opener is noteworthy, but there is no getting away from her poor record with this foe.

Keys to land the second set 6-3 at 13/2 is also an attractive price because that precise scoreline has come off in all but one of the head-to-heads.
