Four from the Champions League
We continue to race towards the start of the new football season with another busy round of Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday evening. Celtic look to finish off Linfield at Parkhead in the highlight, with both clubs hoping to avoid a repeat of the ugly scenes witnessed in Belfast.
The Bhoys are nailed on to come out on top in front of their own fans, so we leave that match alone, and instead give four sides worth having in an accumulator. Follow our thinking for a £10 stake and if our luck is in, your betting balance will swell by £110.40.
APOEL beat Dudelange
Cypriot representatives APOEL should know enough to get through to the third qualifying stage, and with a bit of luck they could be playing in the Champions League proper. That’s still a long way off, but they do take a 1-0 lead into this one and must call on their big game experience to get through. It’s likely APOEL will have to score here, but they are the better team of the two on paper and start us off at 23/20.
Rosenborg beat Dundalk
This game is hanging in the balance, the teams battling out a 1-1 finish last week. McMillan had the Irish side ahead, but that early advantage was cut out by a second-half equaliser from Reginiussen just before the break. A scoring draw away from home is about as much as Rosenborg could’ve hoped for, and they will be confident of putting this one to bed on their own patch. 4/9 looks about right, and we’ll have a go.
Maribor beat Zrinjski
Another match hanging in the balance, but another where the advantage goes with the home dressing room. Maribor take a 2-1 aggregate lead into this decider, but it’s unlikely they’ll look to sit on that and try to protect the one goal cushion. Instead, we’ll see them pushing for home, getting an early goal and seeing this one over the line. They’ve done the hard work. Maribor go in at 8/13, which is better than expected.
Hapoel beat Budapest
We had Hapoel picked to be home and hosed by now, but they made heavy weather of it last week, meaning they must now roll up their sleeves and get the job done on their travels. Not ideal, of course, but by no way is it mission impossible. Our traders are sitting on the fence here, struggling to separate the two sides, meaning there’s value on offer if you can pick a winner. We’ll take the away day at a handy 6/5.
