Coral's worthy League One wagers

Initially formed as Division Three in 1921, League One is an institution within the English game, and the third-tier in the Football League system, with only the Premier League and Championship above it. Widely regarded as constantly increasing in quality, League One boasted several big names and former top-flight clubs in 2015/16 including Barnsley, Blackpool, Bradford City (who fans may remember memorably scalped giants Chelsea in the FA Cup last campaign), Coventry City, Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic, among others. While, Northwest side Oldham Athletic hold the honour of being the current longest-serving representatives in the league, having remained in League One and its forebears since 1997. Three teams are promoted from this division and four relegated, with the top two going up automatically and the third decided via dramatic play-offs at Wembley Stadium. League One is thus the most fluid in English football. Still featuring some of the physical approach and rough and tumble of the old pre-Premier League English game, this division is all-action and a tier for true traditionalists and loyal locals. Dean Windass, Rickie Lambert, Jordan Rhodes and Charlie Austin are just some of the familiar names to have been scoring for fun in League One across the last decade or so. Champions Wigan, who made an immediate return to the Championship, Burton and play-off winners Barnsley went up last season, while Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool, Colchester United and Crewe Alexandra all suffered the drop into League Two.

Take a punt on promotion, relegation and more

Continuing our extensive coverage of top leagues around Europe, Coral have not missed a trick with a host of fantastic League One markets for lucky punters to profit from. So, dip in to our outrights and dabble on everything from team to be champion, the promotion scramble and top six finishes, to relegation and even top scorer. Should you prefer the short-term view as opposed to long-haul wagers, our match markets may be a better fit, as customers can predict scorelines, results, scorers, total goals per game and even back a team to take a half-time lead but fail to triumph. And there is much more where that came from.
