Wolverhampton preview: Torres to get back on the scoresheet

Hernando Torres has slipped back down to a handy mark and can take advantage to get back on the scoresheet in the 1m 1f handicap that opens proceeding’s on today’s card at Wolverhampton (14.10).

The Mick Easterby trained gelding won over course and distance back in January off a mark of 60 and went on to follow-up in good style off 65 at Newcastle when scoring decisively by 2 1/4 lengths.

Hernando Torres backed that up with two solid efforts to make the frame, including when an excellent third of 14 to Correggio in a competitive class 4 contest at York off a rating of 72.

The seven-year-old is now able to race in this lower grade class 5 affair off 3lb lower, and comes into the contest on the back of a return to form over course and distance four days ago when fourth to Street Force.

Hernando Torres was only beaten 3/4 of a length after being headed deep inside the last, and it was an effort which suggested his time was near.

It’s no surprise to see connections turn him out quickly off an unchanged mark of 69, and providing the race doesn’t come too soon the son of Iffraaj looks weighted to take all the beating.

Kadrizzi to shine on Tapeta debut

In the 6f nursery (15.40), Kadrizzi looks nicely treated on the pick of her form and decent value to make a winning debut on the Tapeta surface.

The Dean Ivory trained gelding has only had four starts, and shaped with bags of promise on the first of those at Kempton when a two length fourth to the now 99-rated They Seek Him There.

Kadrizzi finished just a head behind the third home Hawkbill, and that one has won his next three starts and is now rated 98.

That is very strong form in the context of this contest and suggests Kadrizzi’s current mark of 87 may well be on the lenient side.

Although slightly below par off it last time out at Doncaster when only seventh of 12, Kadrizzi had previously slammed Rock Steady by 4 1/2 lengths at Nottingham in the manner of one to keep on the right side.

That form has also been boosted by Rock Steady going on to score next time up, and Kadrizzi definitely looks worth another chance to confirm previous promise.
