Wolverhampton preview: Sir Billy Wright can get back on scoresheet

Sir Billy Wright looks the answer to the 6f handicap on this evening’s card at Wolverhampton this evening (19.10) now returned to the scene of his sole success.

The gelding, who is trained by the in-form David Evans, showed a good attitude to score over course and distance back in March when gamely beating Point North by a neck off a mark of 68.

Since then, the four-year-old has posted a string of solid efforts and been runner-up twice, including off a mark of 75.

Sir Billy Wright is now able to race off 74, having ran really well on the turf at Haydock nine days ago when keeping on to finish a four length fifth off 11 to Flexible Flyer in a decent class 4 contest.

This race doesn’t look as strong, and the return to the artificial surface looks sure to suit.

Connections are also fitting Sir Billy Wright with the visor for the first time and, if the new headgear has the desired effect, the son of High Chaparral looks weighted to take all the bearing in the hands of jockey John Egan.

Duke Street disappointed last time out on the turf at Brighton but can get back to winning ways in the 1m 6f handicap (18.40) now returned to the Tapeta surface.

The Mark Johnston could finish only fourth at the seaside venue but had previously scored in good style over course and distance by 1 1/2 lengths off a mark of 53.

Duke Street made all and ran on strongly to be well in command at the finish and, although now 4lb higher in the weights, has been placed off his current mark of 57 in the past.

The three-year-old also hails from a yard that has been saddling winners left, right and centre in recent weeks, and this is a weak class 6 contest in which Duke Street is going to be tough to peg back if allowed an easy lead.

In the 1m 1f maiden (20.40), Le Notre can build on a promising debut run over course and distance to get off the mark.

The Marco Botto trained colt attracted plenty of market support, but blew his chances at the start when slowly away and then ran green before staying on nicely under tender handling to be nearest at the finish.

Although beaten just over six lengths, Le Notre showed enough to suggest he had the ability to win a race of this nature and is sure to be more streetwise with that run under his belt.
