Wolverhampton preview: Silvala Dance holds solid claims in sprint
Published:Silvala Dance can build on a promising reappearance run to land the 6f handicap on today’s marathon eight-race card at Wolverhampton (15.00).
The Chris Wall-trained mare showed progressive form throughout last season, running well to make the frame on two occasions before opening her account in good style at Yarmouth.
After being held-up off the pace, Silvala Dance made smooth headway to hit the front a furlong from home before running on strongly to score by two lengths off an opening handicap mark of 50.
The daughter of Kyllachy was then far from disgraced on her final start last year when fourth of 10 to Chapellerie over course and distance off 56, and caught the eye on seasonal reappearance when seventh of 16 at Nottingham last month.
Silvala Dance kept on nicely under tender handling after being slowly away to be nearest at the finish and beaten 3 1/4 lengths, and is sure to strip much fitter for the outing.
It was an effort which suggested the five-year-old should be able to win races off her current mark of 55, and taking into account the 3lb claim of promising young jockey Ashley Morgan, Silvala Dance is just 2lb higher than when last successful and weighted to take all the beating.
Rouge Nuage has a good record at the track and looks decent value to further enhance it in the 7f handicap (17.00).
The Conrad Allen trained gelding has won three of his eight starts at the venue, and two have come over this afternoon’s trip.
In the last of those, Rouge Nuage ran on strongly to beat Avaiable by 3/4 of a length off a mark of 72.
Although now 5lb higher in the weights, the five year-old showed he could be competitive off his current mark of 77 when a solid fourth to the ultra-progressive Crazy Chic over course and distance two starts back.
The form of that race reads well in the context of this contest, and although Rouge Nuage was well beaten last time out at Ascot that race was over 6f and the son of Indian Haven is likely to prove a different proposition now stepped back up in trip and returned to a venue which clearly suits.
