Wolverhampton preview: Perfect Cracker primed to strike
Published:David Metcalf | January 6, 2016
Perfect Cracker has a good record at Wolverhampton and looks decent value to further enhance it with victory in the 1m 1f handicap on today’s card at the Midlands venue (14.50).
The Clive Cox trained gelding is a dual course and distance winner and has also ran well to be placed on four other occasions in eight runs at the track.
In the last of those successes six months ago, Perfect Cracker kept on well to land a class 3 contest by a length off a mark of 80.
The eight-year-old backed that up with a solid second over course and distance off 84, and is now able to race in this lower grade class 4 contest of 83.
That gives Perfect Cracker every chance from a handicapping perspective, and the son of Dubai Destination comes into the race on the back of two solid efforts over course and distance following a break.
With those spins under his belt Perfect Cracker should now be spot on to do himself justice, and with Adam Kirby in the saddle everything looks in place for a huge run.
Boonga Roogeta raring to go
Boonga Roogeta returned to form when a cracking second last time out and can take advantage of a handy mark to go one better in the 1m handicap (14.20).
The Peter Charalambous trained seven-year-old is a course and distance winner who was last successful in a class 2 contest at Chelmsford seven months ago off a mark of 80.
Boonga Roogeta is now able to race off 7lb lower in this class 3 affair, and that gives her outstanding claims at the weights.
The mare also hinted that his time was near when beaten just a head by Buckland Beau at Chelmsford three days ago when looking the likely winner until collared close home.
That run was a huge step back in the right direction, and if building on it this represents a great opportunity for Boonga Roogeta to get back on the winning trail.
